39' MTI blowover killing 4 ,
got a call about this sadly a couple days ago , from what I was told it was a high speed run gathering on the River in the Naples area , im sure I will mispell it but here goes , Coswahatche ? I'm sick about hearing about shift like this , a friekin 800 thousand dollar rig driven by a obviously inexperienced idiot out with 3 other people doing something stupid like this . a boat of that caliber on flat calm water on it's ragged edge driven by someone with a checkbook bigger than his brain trying to impress people he dosen't even know . STUPIDITY .

A friend in Florida stated it to me, "we are driving factory built weapons' now." Both cars and boats from the factory are much more then 99% of the public knows how to operate correctly!

All cat hull's have the potential to blow over. I've "kited" my 25' Motion a few times in the past. Narrow tunnel, heavy weight, not going crazy speeds, it just floated for a second and flopped back down.
The guy who crashed, has had NorTech, Doug Wright and Spectre 36' cats with no problems. The 390x MTI is light for it's size, wide high compression tunnel, and with 500's + another 150 in aftermarket parts hanging off the back it makes for a package that has put over a half a dozen of those boats over backwards this year alone.
Spur of the moment judgment call, running over a boat wake, wind gust, hull design .. there is always gonna be something to blame. Lets just say it was a terrible accident and pray for those involved and their families.

Tragic.. This is the risk we take.. Going fast on the water is not safe... Not even in a big cat.. Even in my Allison, if passengers say they want to go fast Ill take 'em.. But I make sure they understand that what they are asking for is inherently unsafe and that people do get killed or seriously injured doing it... I tell them I believe we will be fine and that I've done it hundreds of times but I could make a mistake, have a mechanical failure or hit something unseen in or on the water.. If I know that they listened to what I said and weighed it out in their mind and they still want to go we let er rip.
I hope if something ever happened to me or my passengers in a boat that people.. At least fellow go fast boat people.. Wouldn't come on here and **** all over me for having too much money and not enough skill.. I put in my seat time but that doesn't mean I could never make a mistake or get a bad roll of the dice.

There were gusty 15-20 mph winds running east to west on the river. (local weather guy verified) Sad, sad thing and all we can do is learn from what we see....He had a lot of experience. We all get complacent. CG says that it is the #1 contributing factor in boating accidents.

They weren't doing anything we all haven't done before. We just got away with it. That's like saying Dale Earnhardt didn't know how to drive because he crashed and died. As a fellow boater I mourn the loss of any fellow boater. I have kited my Sleekcraft more times than I care to talk about, but I got lucky and lived to talk about it. **** happens for a reason and beyond our control. Godspeed to these 3 fellow boaters and get well to the only survivor.

i was racing a supercharged jet ski, it was gusty, i could feel my boat start mis-behavin, super loose, not responding to steering. i backed off, let him take the W. it was a good choice, boat was ready to go over.

Do not think I just popped off as a inexperienced boob running my mouth , I put my life on the line every day in an 80,000 pound missel through construction zones at night in the rain at 65 mph on pavement rough as offroad races , was floating Stream hulls in the air around bouys in the Miami Marine Stadium in the middle 70's before you were on a tricycle , may want to ease up on who's got Qualifications to ride on the ragged edge .
I was fully realizing what I saying was going to get somebodys butt to hurt but I stand by by statements , after loosing my Father in a Blowover I am fully aware of the severity of Death and what a toll it puts on others around each of these Souls now gone forever . think about that next time you pass judgement on my reasons for what I say .
we have APBA to provide the safest venues for this sort of performance and my Father , for the record was at a NDBA sanctioned event for the National title races . He is still gone forever and I personally know the severity of what that means . think about that before you speak , I did . And I stand by what I said .Last edited by mr fun; 12-06-2025 at 06:27 AM.

if you want to go out on a banzai run do it yourself, you don't take passengers! I kited my king ,not seriously with a relative on board all because they wanted to experience a high speed run in a boat! shoulda known better and never had it happen before but it was an eye opener, I sold the boat before anybody including me got hurt! When we were done racing the 24 skater, a guy { knew who he was} already a parapelegic came into the shop to buy the boat, I knew his history running with friends onboard, told him the boat wasn't for sale "To Him". no matter his offer!
