Not at all in over my head (28ft extension/ob conversion)

Ok, here’s the start of my hopes and dreams project. A hull with a very interesting history, a 28ft cruiser version of the classic magnum 27 hull! Bad picture below from the tent where it will live this winter

The rough plan is simple: make a swim platform hull extension with a new transom for twin outboards (after one on the old boat said goodbye https://www.screamandfly.com/showthr...c-2-stroke-V6))

Besides that its only small stuff like complete electrical system, comfort items like seats, cushions and hatches besides new paint. Anyone interested to follow this ”slow” project?

Well, this isn't as much of a sidetrack as is might look, winter is here and we already had one day where the weather app said "It feels like -25°C" (-13F). Since that is common for the area where I live, I've bought the diesel heater I aim to have in the boat whenever it is ready for weekends on the water. First start gave me mixed feelings, the exhaust gasses are hotter than I'm comfortable with against plastic (tent and boat) but it did heat up the area fast!

So today I pretended to be a metal fabricator, cut some tube and made some flanges before welding it all up into an exhaust cooler / water heat exchanger. Next time I need pipe of a size I don't have, I'll order it even if it's short pieces

Update: Leak tested and welded the pinholes shut and got to measuring how hot "too hot" is, the exhaust was 220°C (430F) so yeah... Might end badly unless I deal with it! Time to figure out a more permanent mounting system för the heater in the tent.

So, fingers crossed this is the final preparation work! I've used parts from the box of "this might come in handy some day" Even managed to find one fitting made of steel instead of brass, so I could weld it to an expansion tank (I won't claim to be a good welder, but it's good enough for an open system)

Heat exchanger, expansion tank and some small things to actually connect everything has given me this. Couldn't find any anti-freeze so testing will have to wait for tomorrow... Wish me luck!
