    225 Optimax Pro XS performance.

Is their any way to get more power out of a 225 Pro XS Optimax other than bolting a 250 or 300XS powerhead on to it?

Usually set up, engine height, setback, prop, is step one in the quest for speed. For me step two was buying a faster hull for the same motor. I picked up 10 mph with each step.

What do you have now ?

It's on a Triton 19XS, I like the boat just want more speed out of it. Has a 10" Bob's jack plate and I have tried several props and get the best speed out of a 25" pitch Tempest.
Runs 68-69 MPH with just me in it and 65-67 with another person.

High 60's doesn't seem like a lot with 225HP, but I don't know much about bass boats. I asked Mr Google about your boat and found some old posts on BBC that suggest 71-72 should be possible with 225 HP.

Have you tried going higher with the engine? Does the boat carry the bow well, or do you need a lot of trim?

I have played with the jack plate settings quite a bit. I have tried a 24p Tempest, 25p Tempest, 25p Fury, 24p Ronnie Gilbert worked Fury, 23p Mark Croxton Razor 3 and a 23p Solas Scorpion. The 25 Tempest works the best out of all of them, I get my best speed by trimming all the way up then bumping it down some. It does need the bow lift of the Tempest, both of the Fury props I tried didn't have enough bow lift and ran poorly.

Maybe bow lift is the key. If I were in your shoes, I would try to get to 72 +/- with the stock motor before chasing HP.

That is what I have been doing for the past year.

Triton is a good all around boat, but not the best highspeed bass boat. If you want more speed, take out all troll batt,s. & troller off front. Then borrow a 27" pitch prop. It should turn that fine. To go from a 225 to a 250, you need to run the bigger & more press. injectors from the 250. You,re better off changing the p'head or complete motor.

225 and 250 pro XS injectors are exactly the same. Why would I take my trolling motor and batteries out? The boat would be completely pointless then.

I don't think so. Dave Bush Racing offers a kit for the 250 and 300xs engines.. But I'm not sure that they offer one for the 225. Maybe look them up and give them a call.
