Windermere Grand Prix when Evinrude / Johnson made up the majority of the field. If you look carefully Right of the picture next to the Landrover that must be Roger Jenkins boat No 60.

Yes..I think you are correct. Windermere Grand Prix was probably the last race of 1975 and last race Roger Jenkins drove a Johnson in the UIM OE class. He switched to Volvo Penta 1976 in the OE class. (conflict with the OMC racing management)

The afterplanes on these boats were huge. What was the theory behind their size? Hydrodynamics or aerodynamics? Both? Was it a method to get around UIM hull rules for length?

The UIM OE, ON and OZ class did not have any restriction on boats..You could but a V6 an a 2X4 and race.
..but in the mid seventies Cees and other boat builders did some experiment with "after planes"

In 1970 or 1971 testing at the OMC Brugge factory preparing for Paris, Dieter Schultz arrived with what looked like 6 foot long 2x4’s. He attached them to the rear of the sponsons. The idea was to eliminate blow overs. In fortunately he couldn’t get on plane as the extensions forced the bow down. Might it worked if he had a way to lower them in to position after on plane? Who knows?????

I remember Renato Molinari telling us new kids on the block that if you felt the boat lift, mash down on the throttle and drive the boat upward for a full frontal profile to act like a speed brake in the air. We thought the "old man" was nuts (LOL)

A new never seen picture before of the #165 Renato Molinari and his fantastic Molinari/Saffa/2 X Evinrude V6 3 liter loopers with fuel injection. (1979)
This boat was extremely fast in the UIM OZ class..but turning was a bit tough.
You can see Renato is using left and right turning propellers already 1979.
Thanks Sagnamor JC for the picture.

If I remember correct Renato re-rigged the boat for an inboard class in Italy and sold it.

Sadly Craig Truslove flipped and damaged his very nice OMC powered tunnel down under last weekend.
Craig is fine but lots of work now..
