    21Ft Skater Questions

    Hi,
    I have a 21ft Skater w/twins.

I'm looking to get in touch with someone who has or had one of these boats.
I'd to ask a few questions about how it rides.

    Please message me.
I would like to have a quick 5 minute call, to see if there is a fix to my problem.

    Thank you

    Thank you for the reply.

    Mine porpoises badly IMO.
It did have a full tank of gas.
But any speed, any trim level, and any water condition.

I could not get it to stop.
Is there a fix for it?

A guy I know ran one with twin 300’s I don’t recall him saying anything bad about porpoise. That said I too have struggled with porpoise for a long time. It’s really in the set up that makes or breaks it and even then there is always a speed where it happens. Bow lifting props make more on my hull than others but so long as I run fast enough it goes away.

Try a pair of cleavers see if that solves it

Plus, you will likely get about 2 miles per gallon or more. Try to add only what you need. I like to run mine from half tank down. I only fill it when needed for a specific run.

    Hi,
I tried all speeds from 20mph to 80ish
    Different trim angles
    Smooth water and moderate chop.

I found that leaving the trim almost all way down was the best. If I went above a 3, it would start jumping out of the water.

    It came with two sets.
    And
I don't know crap about props or outboards.
    This is my first outboard.
    But
Here are the Props it came with.
I ran the set with the writing on them.

is 0 trim = cav plate straight with tunnel floor or is 0 as far dow as it will trim?

depending on set up, 80 could be where your boat starts to step up on air.

"Zero" is as far down as the trim will physically go.
And where the gauge starts at.

What you see here is "Zero".

    Lastly:
It was very hard to keep it at any high speed for over less than a minute, because the thing was jumping all the way out of the water. It progressively got to that point every time.

Those are cleavers so it’s most likely not your prop. It doesn’t take much trim at all to fly these things. Start with the trim all the way down and speed the hull up as much as it will go then one little bump at a time raise the trim until it breaks free. You’ll feel it almost suddenly loosen up. If you trim too high it will be all over the place. Sometimes at lower speeds you can trim quite high and it will cruise nice but once you throttle up it will be too hairy. At high speeds it doesn’t take much trim to fly good. That thing should pull 100+ when it’s all sorted out. Seat time is the best education. Don’t be reckless be sure you and all passengers wear a lifeline safety vest when going fast. Just be careful. Skaters are known to be pretty solid safe hulls but too much air underneath any speedboat is risky as heck so take your time getting used to it. The downside of speedboats is you typically don’t get tons of time at high speeds to learn all this. It takes many runs to get it second nature. Have fun
