Mercury is doing what any corporation would do with NO competition....playing games to influence the market. You say the 2 strokes were far behind. Well, a 2.5 with carbs against a 4.6 fuel injected behemoth 4 stroke. Mercury has ruined the top tier class of outboard racing in this country just like they ruined the best door slammer class ever....Mod-VP. Why? Because they could not keep that lone Evinrude from running up front. If the guys running the 2 strokes could run a true F1 Champ engine the 4 strokes would be way behind. Mercury owns boat racing but Yamaha still builds the most reliable outboards.
