    Could Have Been?

The old style Merc SSM gearcases required miracle mechanics to keep them going. The SST100 package would have dominated. Instead, the SST100 showed up in small pockets of racers who bought the package. I really mulled over the idea a great deal but had too much money wrapped up in Merc equipment to make the jump and the future of OPC racing was starting to be questionable anyway.

Try Seaway Marine in Seattle WA. They ended up with all of OMC's hiperf racing stuff when OMC folded. BRP didn't want it.

If I had an SST-100 rig back in the late 80's I would have pulled it into the pits at an IOGP race. When everyone walked over and said 'you are at the wrong race', I would have said 'no, I am here to run SST-140. Disadvantage? Yes. Make Mercury officials have a hemorrhage? Yes!

The same goes for APBA Formula 100 (99.9 ci). OMC SST100s could have run anytime they wanted to but didn't. Only time I can remember where SST100s appeared in any significant numbers were the OPC Nationals in Kankakee? Unfortunately Formula engine technical specs were governed by "tech" committees interested in their own agendas (Brand names). Not at all like the UIM. APBA pawned these conflicts off on the poor event inspectors, owners and drivers. Cowardly.

Greg Jacobsen of Seaway with the help of the Texas Schuberts tried. Got competitive but couldn’t pull off a win, podium finishes, yes. Sounded great. If I’m not mistaken Ron Anderson had some input of engine mods. The V-6 they used was actually the V-6 used in Europe & came from Cees inventory the Greg bought.

Al told me he modded a few for ski boats on pump gas over 230hp very reliable still on small bore carbs so they have potential

    Johnson High-Performance Products

In 1992, the OMC Performance Group delivered a full-range of hot-performing "racing outboards" from the 15A to SST100. These were not recreational outboards, but rather designed for competition and to meet APBA specifications. Competition enhancements included streamlined gearcases, heavy-duty midsections, beefed-up motor mounts and twin steering arms. To set these motors apart from their recreational brothers, they featured unique motor cover styling and special powerhead machining for improved performance.

The Big Guns – Additionally, OMC offered Limited Edition V-6 and V-8 models for sport boats as well. These motors also featured special graphics, plus cylinder heads machined to the limits of factory specifications. Both Limited Edition outboards were available with an optional hydro-dynamic gearcase with low water pick-up allowing higher transom heights for performance boats. There were also special steering brackets available for multi-engine applications and external steering. Plus, an optional external exhaust snout for a high-performance look and sound.

Even More Performance – Second Effort Performance Products in Lake Hamilton Florida was OMC’s authorized racing center offering a complete range of ulta-high-performance products from special-duty props to complete higher-performance versions of some production engines
