    7 petal?

    Did they make a 2.5 7 petal 200hp engine?
How can I tell the difference in a 2.4 and 2.5 7 petal front half?

The reed plate/ intake has a slightly different bolt pattern.
2.5L has staggered bottom bolts, with the starboard bolt lower.

I’m looking at a front half on eBay and seller says it fits 2.5 but says it’s for a 200hp and gave real old assembly numbers 0Cxxxxxxx and before.
I can’t tell what it is from the pictures.

I thought the 240 SportJet was the hot setup... the rubberized 5-petal deal?

I don’t know. Clue me in. Will those fit a regular 5 petal front half?

Well sounds like I’d be better off with 4 petal for a hot fishing engine? I’ve opened the exhaust dump and exhaust plate to match.

I’m running a four petal. Strong motor up to 6000rpm it really pulls hard. After 6000 meh. So if you want a winder I’d be looking at the seven or five. I did speak with one builder who claims the seven slightly outperforms the five. Just here say but i remember him saying it.

I was going to put a 7 petal front on my build. Chris Carson talked me out of it. He says the 4 petal will have a better holeshot and pull harder through the midrange. Unless you plan to rev it to 8K, stick with the 4 petal.

Well mine sure pulls like a freight train to 6 that’s for sure. Acceleration I have no complaints. I’m just trying to go faster up top and I don’t mind much if I lose some down low although I’ll be surprised if it’s much slower down low. Efi should aid in this as well because you don’t need the vacuum signal to draw fuel you just command it. That’s the idea anyways. If it sucks I’ll put this powerhead back on lol

I don’t know what to do. If all the 225 stuff had 7 petals, how do they 240 out of the sport jet engines? I want to turn 7000. Don’t care if I lose a little down low if I can out run em on long runs.

The 225 promax is 240 hp. It’s underrated. The 240 sport jet is basically the same motor with a big 5 petal front half. I don’t know if any of the sport jets were 7 petal but it doesn’t really matter much because the key difference between the fishing motor 4/5 is the size of the intake holes on the front half. They are staggered and are approximately 75% as wide as the seven petal or five petal sport jet which is the same size front half. That’s where all the extra flow comes from.

You don't need any "exotic" parts just to turn 7k... the "stock" bridge port & oval port 2.4L motors turned 7,500+ rpm (from what I remember).
But none of them would do it without correct porting... no matter what you bolt onto the front.
