Powers laser slide gains?
I see on Powers site claims of 15hp gains over the stock laser intake but I’m curious if anyone can actually prove that or has real world experience with one of these intakes. If it made any noticeable gains over the stock intake system. Thanks

I did some reading and the best info I found was some modded laser intake builds that Trex did back in the day. He put larger butterflies in the stock intake and said it worked great. My next motor I’m looking for all the beans so I’ll consider whatever option. Ideally a horn would be the ticket but a small bearing front half is no easy find

The stock laser is really constrictive on flow. I have talked to some that say the slid intake on a laser is a major increase all over the power band, feels like a horn intake system on a 260 if you put one on a 225 PM. Now can you run a stock merc box with that slide intake? I don't think I would, but I have not ever played with it.

I'm interested as well. Would love to get some extra power out of my Promax, especially above 6500 RPM... Its already got some mild port work, 33cc heads, Brucatto with raised limiter, 16amp conversion ect...

We put a slide on a Promax years ago and it made a noticeable difference. It's more prominent with additional modifications.

There were several different takes on the sliding intake (Smilin' Jack/AMS, Brucato, Powers, etc)... they all seem to make more power and get worse fuel economy.

That’s good to hear. I might try and hotrod a stock laser intake just to see what I can get out of it if I have time otherwise it’s looking like the slide is the way to go. I’ll be upgrading the box as well. 16amp conversion with Light flywheel too and port the heck out of the block. 34cc heads to start. Seven petal front. Should be good to go. My current motor runs hard to 6k then you need lots of water in front of you to wind it up from there. I’ve had it to 7500 but it takes a good run to do it. I’d like the new motor to spin up to 7k just as quick as this one goes to 6 and then spin over 8 on a long run. Basically I want to blow past 90 as easy as it blows past 80 now. I think that’s a reasonable goal for these mods

Everyone has an opinion, I am sure there is more to that than just adding a slide and expecting gains. There is more needed. Slide, chest work, compression, fuel curve, all work together. If just adding a slide I would agree.

A dyno of before and after a slide install with no other mods would be excellent. The motor could be modded it doesn’t matter but the dyno test should be the exact same motor showing only the difference with the intake swap. If these things make solid gains this is sure to sell many

I’ve got a gold colored brucato slide front. Is it worth anything?

i just wonder if the slide intake area[wot] is greater than the laser open area, or just a straighter flow path? probally they want you to turn the motor higher to show a gain. im sure mercury tested bigger intake cfm units, why not produce a 240 pro/max? direct injection is the way.. imo
