    This is the way the UIM SE class looked like 1972.
    Lots of Carniti outboards dominated the class..but 1973 something major happened and that's coming in the next post

    Back in the day when you could race boats anywhere, even with houses all around. The occupants would come out and watch. Now they don't want to see or hear race boats in their backyard. I see all the Carnitis have a rope over the engine cowlings!

    Since the UIM SE stock engine rules would not permit physical alterations to the engine cowlings, the ropes were probably added to prevent losing the cowls while racing?

    The Carniti 849 cc - 65 HP was a very advanced UIM SE class engine.
    It was introduced 1970/71 and was a 3- Cylinder looper with CD ignition. (no breaker points).
    Gearcase was with reverse..(a must in the UIM SE class). The gearcase did have a very low water intake..see red arrow.
    I worked for the Carniti dealer in Stockholm when this engine came out.
    It was a perfect UIM SE class engine..only one problem..not very dependable..
    No powertrim at this time.

    (There was also a 90HP with more cc..the rest was the same.

    Would have loved a lower unit like that on my SE and SD motors. The Carniti was about 2 cubic inches too big for SE in APBA.
