    Johnson 3.6 gt mid question

Hey all, still trying to learn as much as I can about these V8s as I go through the build process. I have a question about the exhaust outlet on the mid section and how exhaust actually comes out of it. I have it pretty far apart right now and it seems to me that the "can" is seals to the lower with that pentagon looking gasket. I'm confused as to how anything would come out the mid? Do I need to change or modify something?

You need to take a hole saw and cut through the can.

Ok, that's what I figured. Does it matter how big of a hole or how many? Something like a single 2 inch hole in the middle is good?

If you take the adapter plate off you should be able to just pull the whole can out. At least that is how its done on Merc's.

I would take Racer's advise and hole saw the exhaust liner. The water pickup tube mounts in a hole in the liner and is clinched between the mating surface of the adapter plate. Also you run the risk of melting the water pump

If you cut through the can through the exhaust opening can you reinstall the plate when you want it to be quiet? I used a die grinder and cut mine but have been worried about installing the blank off plate when I didn't want to hear all of the noise for just cruising around.

Thanks Al. I’ve been wondering about that.
