2.5 value?
The bottom has dropped out of 2.5s in my area. Can’t give em away. I’ve had 2 given to me. Is it like this everywhere?

Only so many pro max 225's. The ff is the next best thing. Valuable down here in Fl. I love my ff, runs real good.
83 V-King, 96 Mariner, ff block 2.5 w/a 28p chopper
Ain't it great to have papa TRUMP back at the helm?

All 2.5’s are good. Some just need more mods than others to really rock. We have a member with a stock XR6 notched sleeve 2.5 which is the lowest factory performing 2.5 motor running mid to high 80’s on his stream. Tnels runs mid 90’s with his stock 225 promax with the same hull. Pretty impressive performance on all levels imo. Any sound 2.5 needs to be at bare minimum saved from the scrap heap. They ain’t making any more

Well then, I’m rich somewhere.
got 2 FFs, 1 F, 1 225 promax, and a 260.
Also have 1 FF with a repairable hole in 1 cylinder.
Is it worth the effort to cut a FF to make a 260 or 280?

Pretty common to cut an FF or an EE up for more power. To make a 260 out of it you need to port the sleeves. To make a promax clone you can use the stock FF porting you just need the 7 petal front and do the block work: rod slots, exh dump, bump compression up a bit, and the ecu needs to match mainly the front half. Promax built motors are 240ish hp.

In the PNW finding good used Merc's of any size - 2, 2.4, 2.5 - is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. You got them FREE? Wow. If you were to find a good 2.5 around here you'd pay top dollar for it. The sensibility of residents of this part of the country (if you can call it that) is to not re-power. Very few people do this, and if they do they are getting 4-strokes. I think people just throw away old 2-strokes out here. Even though Western WA has one of the highest per-capita boat ownerships in the country, most people are "green minded," if you know what I mean.

Back when Merc announced no more two strokes a guy on here(don't recall who) was comparing Motorcycles switching over and the two strokes becoming worth about 1200.00. I made a comment to send me a link to any 200XS for 1200.00 but I have not found any yet
. Mercrazy maybe you get find me an almost free one or Promax in your neck of the woods.

There’s two letter stamps on the side of the block near the front half. FF is the latest 2.5 200 variation and it has the largest exhaust chest of the 2.5 fishing motor family. The legend is greater than the reality though. One of our more reputable members ran an EE and an FF on the same hull, same set up, 1mph difference at most. But the FF block does share the same sleeves as the 225 promax and has the same exhaust chest so these versions have the most appeal for fishin mota hotrod builds

I’m in the 2.0/2.4 family because that is what my first boat had when I started boating in 2009. No complaints. Love them. But still I’d love a carb 2.5/200. Rare as hen’s teeth out west here and not cheap.

Oh and throwing away something that still works or could be repaired for a fraction of buying new, is NOT green. It contributes to the whole cycle of large scale resource extraction and massive energy consumption to create something new out of nothing.
My education is in engineering, but one of my economist mates, now a professor of economics once told me, “The destruction of useful assets, even for better ones, is never a net plus for a society.” A society is way better off if it uses what it has until it can’t be used any more, before you head down the energy and resources sinkhole that comes from making something new. “Prevention” (of all the waste of making something new from nothing), is at the top of the “waste hierarchy pyramid”. Google “waste hierarchy pyramid”, I comes right up. You don’t even need to follow a link.
