Merc 200
Just picked up a 2002 Merc 200. Compression good on all cylinders.
The block has an "F" marked on it, not "FF" as I would have expected. However, it does have O-ring heads.
I thought the "F" was only for 1991 engines.
Did Mercury use "F" blocks in more than 1991?
How would this "F" block compare to the "FF" block?

Block or power head probably replaced. Does it have head gaskets? 02 should b o-ring. F block is a small chest like an EE that came with a 7 petal front half. There’s no bad 2.5, they’re all great. Even the notched sleeve XR6 motors really move out

Mercury used F stamp for the later o ring blocks also. The newer F version should be very similar to a FF block, except the deck is taller.

I have a 2000 2.5 200 carb motor and a 2001 2.5 200 EFI. The carb motor has no markings. The EFI has a 05 replacement block. It is marked F. I see no difference between them. The FF block I have looks the same except, like OnPad said, the deck is slightly shorter because it uses gaskets, not Orings. But I am no expert on what the differences are to look for them. I am planning to use the exhaust cover from the FF block on the F block because I switched the ignition to switch boxes from CDM. Wasn't the term "Fat block" only used during the transition from 2.4 style to 2.5 style motors?
