Historically significant Formula 1 V8 for sale.

Owned and raced by multiple world champion Cees Van Der Velden (The flying dutchman).His personal development boat with detachable sponsons.

Due to ill health, I am selling my dads beautiful man cave collection including this Velden world championship points winning race boat. The hull is Balsa, Kevlar and Ply and raced with Benson and Hedges livery, other sponsors were Olivetti, Longines Timing, Castrol, DHL and Champion.

Genuine engine is also extremely rare and to best of my knowledge there is probably less than 6 remaining in the world. 1987 OMC Formula 1 3.5 Litre V8 Fuel Injected 2 Stroke Outboard with 6” bubble back mid section, racing gear box, V8 props. This is as good and big as it ever got with current Formula 1 Limited to much smaller displacement engines.


This was Cees Van Der Velden personal boat with detachable sponsons, electric hydraulic power steering with nitrogen assist, 125 Litre Fuel tank, Hydraulic up down in and out, Porsche 944 fuel pump system, custom tandem enclosed trailer all rebuilt / restored to original condition.

For the guy that has everything.

It is by far a beautiful collector's piece but I can't recall Velden ever running Evinrude colors? Is there a story on how this package ended up in Canada?
Note: This hull is not a detachable sponson version?

I have talked to the owner (father) today.
Yes, its the former blue boat.

Here is some more info from the owner..

"It is the detachable sponson boat,they are bolted thru the tub and nose area and are braced by tubular aluminum cross struts,I have made balsa covers over the bolt access points on the front of the sponsons instead of the **** ally plates it came with. I have replaced the old bolts with new"

Yes, and I can add Amsterdam, Cardiff, London, Antwerp, Rouen, Lyon and even Stockholm.
A raced them all. Only one I really loved was Paris.

My two favorite places for very high top speed races was Idrocscalo, Italy (best by far)
and Holme Pierrepont, UK. (second best)

Did you ever race in Texas where Ben Roberston did the huge lap average speed?

No..if I remember correct they used that location only two times.

Beaumont Tx. Hi Lars, We were running 1-2-3 on the last lap when I ran out of fuel, in sight of the finish line Gene, Art, and me. I think I started last on the dock because we were making repairs to the boat and didn't do qualifying. Fun race right up to about 10 seconds to the end.
