How about Wayne and Wilbur Weeks?

I know they were from the south and they had some unbeatable OMCs.
    Before my time though.

Just round canned some old boat magazines and one had a full page ad for Evolution Marine out of Louisiana which was top of the list in the day.

Wasnt all/just factory support in the day.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

First picture is #14 Nicola Mora of Italy and me in #8 during the Stockholm F1-V8 race 1983.

Second picture is Nicola Mora and me onboard my Skater 32 rigged with 3 X Evinrude V8 engines in Fort Lauderdale 1992.

    Great times..

One of my favorite racers and a friend of mine.

One of THE BEST David Vs Goliath stories.

Al Stoker and his dad, out of John’s Custom marine in California, built their own Mod VP legal motors, and boats, and faced down the Mercury juggernaut and beat them!

Used to be a famous picture of their boat behind their family statin wagon pitted between the Merc factory transporters!

One of THE only, true, free classes to allow the motor wars to happen.

I have videos of a bunch of his races where there’s 20+ boats, he’s the only OMC and wins!
(most of the videos are on YouTube)

    Three time world champion!

And is “Racer” on this website.

He also just won’t the Parker 300 for the 2nd yr in a row.

Mod VP would still exist today if it wasn't for several Merc entries with deep pockets who ruined the class with ridiculous safety requirements and hull rules.

Stoker beat the Merc guys on their own home field (St. Louis).

Christmas 1936 – “Consolidated Competition” is Born at OMC

On September 30, 1936 Johnson was formally consolidated with OMC. A new corporate policy was established that would create a unique competitive environment throughout the organization for nearly two decades. “Consolidated Competition” as it was known, allowed Evinrude-Elto and Johnson to continue to build their own outboards and compete virtually undisturbed, as they had before consolidation. They would continue to compete head-to-head as if the parent OMC company did not exist.

Generally Friendly Competition - Often, this policy of internal rivalry spilled over into areas of engineering and production. As Fortune Magazine pointed out in its August 1938 issue, “Chief Engineer Irgens of Evinrude and Chief Engineer Rayniak of Johnson get together once a week. If one of them has made some significant advancement he will tell the other....but mostly Irgens is trying to outsmart Rayniak, and vice versa.”

The Rivalry Doesn't End - While the two brands began sharing the common outboards in 1951 - and eventually all motors became the same design - the spirit of head-to-head competition continued well into the 1980's.

    Christmas 1952 - A Milestone Year

History was made at Johnson Motors in November 1952 as the one-millionth Sea-Horse came down the assembly line at Waukegan, making Johnson the very first outboard to reach that milestone. Johnson would hit successive million sales milestones, leading the industry throughout its entire history.
