I absolutely loved my Pro Comp STV very easy to drive and I agree that up to 95 they are fine. Over that you have to be damn careful as they can get very loose. All your actions at say 120 or more have to be very slow and deliberate. Best prop was a 30 lab cleaver. With a 32 lab Cleaver it would scare me.

I have never seen a mention of a core for an STV are they straight glass or what’s the scoop? How do you inspect for a good safe hull?

Good question; I wonder if there are years to "avoid" like with some other performance hulls where the molds have changed hands as well as the technology as it relates to materials used over the years.

My dream rig is an XB2003 and rigged with a four stroke 175 or 200. Room to fish two and still run almost 90 while sipping gas.

Like this? Well, not a 4 stroke but it is a 200. RR

I like my Mirage Jaguar center steer. Works great with 12 inch midsection. Very easy to drive.

Not a stv, but my old ltv looks to be hand layed glass. Has wood stringers, strakes, transom, knees, and a full width strong back between mounting holes on transom. The sponsons are filled with foam and covered in glass. I guess that would be a core, but has been removed from my boat. I think some of the stv's are made with kevlar.

There were Kevlar options for the original STVs and I know that there were light potato chip boats made. There is a current discussion on Facegroup about the merits of the different builders. None are to be avoided.

I think they were balsa cored

Any reported STV soft core stories or worse delaminate events? I saw what looks to be two distinct designs of River Rockets when I was on a run a while back. I spoke with the one gentleman he said his was an 89 and I didn’t get a chance to speak with the other guy but his looked newer, sleeker, like most that I see in fact. I also see that Triad sold the molds to Barsch. Did Wally at Triad design the STV? What was the first production year?

There is a Facebook site dedicated to STV's both past and present and has a lot of good information as well as Q&A postings, may want to check/ post there. I can't comment on it as I don't have Facebook (don't see the value in knowing when someone changes a roll of toilet paper) but can read some of the postings as a guest.

The brochure from the original Roark Summerford era shows Klegecel core. So I was wrong about the core. Sorry. I still think the transoms are wood. A google search turned up a few transom replacement stories.

The current Full Throttle Powerboat website shows "All STV models are built with the best materials available. All are built using foam core construction and vinylester resin. This type of construction is very strong and ridged while keeping the boat light and rot free. We do not use any wood in the structural building of our boats."

I collected a few brochures about STVs, Mirage, Allison, etc when I owned my Hydrostream Virage. Eventually I drank the Allison cool aid and I expect to own my SS2000 until I can't climb out anymore.

Here's the link to Roark Summerford's write up. Should be required reading for any S&Fer.
