The Johnson Outboard Motor Show - 1977 Promotional boat show video

I love videos like these, and this one, though sometimes pretty corny, has some really cool sequences in it. This was a promotional video that was shown at boat shows and dealers in 1977. The best part is near the end, where they show what is called "the hardest boat jump in history", where they jump a number of GW Invaders through this wall of fire. It actually does look really impressive, and something that would never even be imagined for advertising today.

My back hurts just watching the GW Invaders land. I've had a few of the boats they showed.

Sorry, but in this video the announcer says it was "the hottest boat jump in history" Not the hardest. It's a wall of fire.

Back in the 70's I went to a waterski show in Florida. It was either at Busch Gardens or Cypress Gardens. I can't remember. I was a little kid. I don't remember the jump through the wall of fire. But I do remember the Waterskiing hang gliders off the boat. And I remember my uncle being amazed the boat could pull all of them with an outboard. That the engine was new and the biggest ever. So maybe I was there when they introduced the v6 outboard. Or at least in the same time frame.

In 1977 I had a new 17ft MFG with a 140 Johnson, I was taking a fellow employee for a test drive during our family field day, at Millier Brewing Company brewery, and I hit the sand bar going wide open, My friend bought that boat, He said if it can take that it can take anything.
