    15' hydrostream viper

We have had a 15' hydrostream viper under construction for a few years and finally been out on it using a vance 3" backspace mechanical jackplate. We wanted to go with the Atlas hydraulic 4" backspace jack plate. The issue at hand is T-H marine is selling the 4" back space jack plate and we got delivered a 4-7/8" backspace plate!I notified T-H marine about this and they basically said they no longer sell the true 4" jackplate and is selling the 4-7/8" as a 4" Between the extra weight and distance I am hoping to find out if this will still work on this boat where we have a merc 2.4-200 on it. What is your feelings on this or should I switch to Bobs action series true 4" plate, which is 10 lbs lighter.

Sounds like your question belongs in the “props setup and rigging” section. Might have better luck there.

People here have said that the 2.0/150 is the ideal motor for a fast daily driver Viper. Since the 2.4/200 is a few lbs lighter, I guess it should be just as good if not better.

That sucks. It’s one thing to change a product but it’s a whole other animal to advertise and sell one product and deliver something not to spec. When I was researching jacks I was initially going for Bobs and then found a clip showing a bobs at full jam and it was walking side/side considerably. It was between the atlas and the seastar after that vid. I decided on the seastar for a few reasons and it seems to be perfectly solid.

All that aside if your multi using the hull with full loads and whatnot a jack makes sense. If all you want is a lightweight ripper you’ll do best by skipping the jack altogether and mounting directly to the transom imo.
