The last gfc didnt fix much so will the next gfc fix more of the debt which will be more painful?
The glass steagall act and now the Dodd Frank acts have tried to stop it but the bankers that caused the crashes in the usa lobby to remove them
I've not read anything that shows the benefit to the population of Wall street banks, it seems just a mechanism to make a few very rich at the expense of the greater population
The crooked part of banking is its all about today, they can take a commission and retire and who cares about tomorrow that the rest of us have to live in.
Taking a bonus on a derivative but looses the bank billions in later years.
Other countries have tried to reign it in UK and the EU but its fully out of control in the USA

CNBC reported on Monday that the layoffs will impact a total of more than 1,000 workers within the automaker’s software and services unit. They are global in nature.

GM said the company "must simplify for speed and excellence, make bold choices, and prioritize the investments that will have the greatest impact" as the company "build[s] GM's future."

By the time President Joe Biden’s four-year term ends next January, it’s increasingly likely he’ll be able to say, "No recession happened on my watch."

The last recession was the deep but short COVID downturn that ran from February to April of 2020, during Donald Trump’s fourth year as president. The economy has mostly expanded since, and economists think that is likely to continue. The Bloomberg consensus outlook is a 30% chance of recession during the next 12 months, which is the lowest level in two years. At this time in 2023, the outlook was a 65% chance of recession within 12 months.

Power Ole Boy ... we have been a rudderless ship for the last three and a half years. Well at least not by any legally elected officials. The one that was placed in office has been sleeping in a beach chair for the last month.
