Signs of our local bad economy getting much worse!
Mercury Marine of Fond du lac WI has laid off permanently sum 300 + workers over the last 3 months.
Now the local buzz is that sum1700 will be next. Better buy them while you can.
But not to worry the economy is great!1994 Brad Collins Mirage Jag.with 1990 2.4 BP E.F.I Offshore

Between interest rates at the lowest they have ever been, and Covid it was a great run, but as in all things in life we have Cycles,
GIVE away 4 Trillion $ to people with total disregard sure got the economy overstimulated, just like the RV business that went crazy,
Just give away another Trillion without any guidelines for Instant relief,
The bottom line is history shows us everything runs in cycles, and we just went through the LONGEST expansion in History
No matter who is elected It's going to be a slow 4 years because the housing industry got so overheated in the South and interest
Rates in the regular area again, all those big-ticket items are dead, and reality set in.
Mortgage rates got as low as 2.65% which let people pay a lot higher prices and still fit the budget, In 1981, the mortgage rates
were 16.62%
I bought a six-unit apartment house from my Dad in 1978, he gave me a second mortgage for 10% interest
That was lower than the banks first.

Just think about the trickle down effect that this Mercury marine thing is going to have on all the contract and support business's in the central Wisconsin area, trucking companies, box companies. It's not going to just effect the workers at Mercury, the whole area is going to loose many more jobs.

I'm sorry if you believe anyone has a magic wand, but the USA has been leading the world's economies.
I'm looking at buying a 40 ft yacht from Canada. One US dollar is worth 1.38 in Canada, and the boats are like Museum pieces,
With ultra-low hours and fresh water, please show me one economy doing better than us.
I know a large MH / RV park in Naples that is always full of Canadians in the winter. I've been told 40% did not make the trip this
year because their money is worth so much less here. One of my Canadian clients living in a 1.5 million dollar home did not spend
any money on anything around her estate this year, not because she doesn't have the money, but because they clam up, it's
a Psychological issue with depression even though they have plenty of money.
It makes them scared and reclusive.

Rumors are going around from people I know to be in the know that had the corp. Not spent all the foolish money on r and d, testing and tooling for the lackluster EV program, the company wouldn't be in the state that it's in financially and probably could weather this down turn in sales. Just something to think about. It's kinda like what Harley Davidson went through with their failures with designing, testing, marketing a EV product that ended up to be to expensive and that no one wanted to buy in the first place. I'm thinking Mercury is finding themselves in the same position

Studder, look, well anyway, back better economics at it's finest. That and maybe normal folks don't really want to spend $50,000.00 on an outboard motor.

Per the 200R-While I agree with the sentiment, I'd say the past experience of the 200XS would not bode well for sales. The 200XS was a great motor, that unfortunately no one wanted. You hear a lot of people say they'd want this motor, but if this site is a reference for it's market, they'd be replacing 225/300 pro Max, or the 260/280 lineup. I doubt that would have any appeal to that market, as it would be a drop in performance. But I've been married, so I know I've been wrong before.

If it were light enough to replace the 2.4/200, on the kind of boats that the 2.4/200 came on, and at an equivalent (inflation-adjusted), price, it would sell a ton.
How much was a 2.4/200 in 1989? (Even ignoring the weight and complex expensive maintenance), How much does 200hp cost today? Has it gone up with the CPI? Or is it waaay more today?
