yep there is.. tha plates aren't mating completely or tha mount "pockets" could be wore or wallard out a touch.. if both plate surfaces are completely flat then ya need ta look at tha pockets and motor mounts if they are used pieces..... did you use any type of sealer on tha them?..

I've seen that before. The water tube comes up right between the mounts. There is another thread showing what it looks like with top plate off. He had a different problem but you can see how it can leak like yours.

Its easy for the mounts to move while torquing long mount bolts. I would no bounce hit the mount to make sure it was seated in the pocket. I also liked to use perfect seal [Aviation sealer by permatex] on the gasket between the mounts.

Damn. Well the good news is the plates are perfectly flat and have zero corrosion. I did use some spray copper on the base gaskets before installing but that was it. I guess some right stuff sealer would probably be in order. I do have an offshore type engine cover so the base plate mounts with two gaskets one above and below which sucks because I only have these two good promarine grey ones that are currently installed. I have spare green ones I could try next I guess. It runs like a champ and doesnt heat up bad at all on the hose I was very pleased with it. Runs damn near perfect really. Ran it twice 30 minutes no issues although it was spewing quite a lot of water out of the idle exhaust relief maybe thats tied to this.
Any other suggestions Im going to pop the power head off and replace these gaskets todayHydrostream dreamin

My only other thoughts are, dry fit mounts in plates and make sure they don't need any sizing help. I recall taking a file or sand paper to them in the past.
And support the drive gearcase assembly with a block or something to take any side loads off upper plates while torquing mount bolts.Jim

There are two rubber washers in there that I omitted because they were dry rotted. Would that cause this?

and yes i do think the rubber rings help with the water, spin the mounts around and youll be able to fit the rubber rings, washer and tighten properly without grabbing the cast plate, too many threads showing on those bolts, usually only 1-2 threads show

Aaronhl is correct. The mounts are in backwards. You need to turn them around. They will fit better and you will get a better seal between the plates.
