    The First - will get dismantled after 50 years of sea service.

    USS Enterprise (CVN-65) will be the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to be dismantled. With 8 nuclear reactors and hazardous materials, and immense size the cost of dismantling is estimated to be over $500 million per the Navy.

    The USS Enterprise motto is:
    We are Legend;
    Ready on Arrival;
    The First, the Finest;
    Eight Reactors, None Faster
    .

    Too bad they can't reuse those 8 reactors... put them on the islands in Hawaii or Puerto Rico?

    Exactly what I was thinking - a few small steam turbines with generators and you have some low cost energy...

    After salvaging the reactors, I would pull the water treatment/ evaporators as those small unfortunate countries can always use good fresh water. Only down side would be hurricane season, may end up with some local 3 eyed fish like on the Simpsons cartoon.

    Yeah, but fresh water & reliable power (at least to hospitals & gov't) would probably help a lot after a natural disaster.

    I enjoyed this thread, after serving in VA-205, a Naval aviation attack squadron which employed A-4 Skyhawks. Good remembrances. Thanks.

    The function of Color uniforms on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

    Brown, yellow, blue, green, red, and white uniforms.

    I wonder if it’s possible to defend an air craft carrier these days. The Russian navy certainly couldn’t defend against the Ukraine drones

    US ships are pretty well defended... one of my friends who served on the USS Wisconsin said the CIWS will shoot a missile or plane and then continue to keep picking out the largest remaining pieces and making them smaller! lol

    While stationed in Guantanamo with the family recently, we'd see ships come and go. She was asking where the guns where and I pointed to several areas along them and said who needs guns when you've got rockets in those pods.
