Been living on the lake for 40 years. Nothing better than having water in your front yard. We call it "Pauperis Paradiso" (Latin for poor man's paradise).

I never actually lived waterfront. But as a kid we had a bay shack/shanty/cabin out on Brosewere bay. Until it burnt down. We also had a small empty waterfront lot that just had a couple boat slips. Now I just keep it on a trailer. About a 8 minute ride to the ramp.

Little Sodus Bay, Fairhaven, NY, 750-acre bay off Lake Ontario.
I loved that place. It had a 40-foot party deck over the boathouse and a concrete ramp with a steel cradle that rolled on a steel track. It was two stories with a basement.
Every once in a while, I check for anything for sale on the bay, but I never see a listing.
this picture was taken there.

I've lived on the water a good part of my life. I'm happy to have got a place early enough in life to be able to afford it. People ask me were I go on Vacation and I just tell them no where, I live on the lake. Boats, golf cart, Bars. What more do I need. Going to get even better, i'm retiring this year

Kinda like the Duttons..........if you have it (waterfront) there are people lining up to take it away from you. Every year it's the same old thing.........everybody wants to drop by for the weekends during the summer but disappear during the winter when you have nasty storms. Global warming has created an irony with saltwater ownership. They want to tax you to death but at the same time condemn your beachfront due to rising sea levels and tidal flooding. All shoreline management permits do is pry money from your wallet and make up 100 excuses that prevent an owner from taking steps to preserve what you already own?

Used to have a cabin on the river. Hosted a river run for about 6 years but flooding became a yearly thing with the last two getting into the cabin and ruining it. Got tired of shoveling mud every year so we sold it. Now we have a cabin in a campground with 54 lakes to fish and zero flooding. Also no fast boating which kinda sucks.

I grew up living on the river and always kept a boat in the water, even driving it to school. My family still lives there, but I have lost all desire to live waterfront. When you want to use your boat, you have to lower it from the lift and the clean all the seagull/goose crap off the cover before you can use it. When you come back, you have to hang out in space on the lift and put the cover back on. With my lightweight ABoat on the trailer, I can go anywhere that has a boatramp, which is good because I get bored easily.

My parents bought a 1.7 acre lot on the intercoastal water way in Savannah Ga. in 1955 for..get this...$1200. We literally lived in the river and I lived there until I left home. It was only natural for me to get into the boat business and go boat racing. My parents sold it in 1990 and now it is worth one million dollars. People that own it now pay over 10K in taxes.
Four years ago, thanks to the scamdemic, I scored a nice weekend place on an inland Georgia lake for a great price. I had to do a lot of work to get it like I wanted but it is nice to have a place on the water again. I do miss salt water boating though as it is limitless as to where you can go.1970 15' Allison/135 Chrysler stacker

I went water skiing off the dock this morning with my friend next door and my brother. We used trick skis, slalom skis, a wakeboard, a disk, and two boats. That would not be easy without living on the lake. It’s a good life,

I grew up on a canal in Fort Lauderdale in the 50's and 60's. My folks ran a very small apartment and motel business. Our big boat was a 14' fiberglass round chine flatbottom with a pressure tank 18 horse Johnson tiller motor. Brother and I, as we got older, had a series of 8' plywood boats including my brother's MiniMax, the first in a generational series of them. Boats sat on cradles on our dock, lifted with a single hand crank winch and dropped in when we wanted to head out. Evening boat rides were a regular thing, maybe 3-4 days a week. Sure miss that, can't get anywhere near any kind of waterfront now.

Per my hero Instigator:
"I try not to let common sense interfere w/my boat buying decisions."
