Tuff 20 with Yamaha 150 SHO

    lifted from Facebook

"We got out boating this long weekend with the TUFF20 with Yamaha 150 SHO. First impressions of the little motor were very impressive here are our first results
    Stock everything 150hp 70mph
Flash ecu nizpro 231 hp 80mph
The flash had an immediate effect lots more torque through the range, fuel economy was increased and rpm was increased as well very much worth doing
Next we are going to swap the gear case out for a v6 SHO case and see how that does, we know the stock gear case is awful for anything over 65
Also to note the motor will loosen up at 10-15 hours we are at 3 even with stock gear case and Minimal prop testing we expect 83-84mph range hope the SHO V6 Case will give us some more as well with motor height"

From Yamaha: engine weighs 480 lb dry, 170 cube 4 cyl, 2:1 gears

Pretty cool to see more engine options out there!

Anyone have real weight data on a 300xs with a 15" mid and carbon cowl? Is it close to 470lbs?

It’s interesting for me to compare speed and power Tuff 20 to Allison SS 2000. I run an SS2000. Tuff went 114 with a 280, which is good for a similar powered SS2000 with the same power.

On the 150 side, there is a lot more than 70 with a 150 on an SS2000. That’s no surprise, as the Tuff is substantially bigger.

I rode on the Tuff 20 at 110mph and it is a much more trackable stable boat the the SS2000 at 90mph+.

Those are good numbers. Says a lot about the motor and more about the boat.

I don't doubt that. 90 is a nice speed for me in my SS2000. I don't drive it any faster. There are a few more mph there. Of course you guys have a bunch more HP on yours.

My Allison got very close to 90 with a lightly modified 150 XR4. I doubt I had the power of the Nizpro flashed Yamaha.

I bet its possible to get one real close to that.. My 3.4L Etec on 16" mid with carbon cowl but glass lower cowl sections weighs 485lbs totally ready to run, including hydraulic steering, prop, oil in the lower unit and fuel system primed...

I bet this thing runs well over 90 with the correct gearcase mods, gear ratio and prop.

70 with a stock 150 is impressive, back in the day only a charger/stream or life threatening sidewinder could produce those numbers and this is a lot more boat to handle some water! kinda why im not excited about putting my 21 twin 225 challenger at the dock! pretty embarassing running against a single 150 with a tune! sounds great running across the lake but the fuel/oil cost of the 225's make it severely outdated!

LOL, your twin 21 is a wonderful piece of history, and you could buy fuel for the rest of your life and come out ahead vs buying a new boat. I'd love to see your 21 one of these years.

can't say it won't happen this year! I'm actually putting my dock at home in this year, been at least 8 years now I haven't bothered! when you live/work on the water for so long it kinda loses it's magic! 7000sq.ft. of dock at the club kinda cures you of wanting another 500sq.ft. and the lift/canopy to take out in the fall! I forgot i had the viking on the lift 2 seasons so maybe 6 years no dock at home! I'd still love a 28 tuff just big enough to fly some cruiser wakes on the river!
