There are thousands of machine shops in the USA building "American Made" parts on Japanese made CNC machines. Some of the best machines are made by the same company that makes Citizen watches. The American Made argument is feel good. I bleed red, white and blue, but do your homework and you won't sleep so well at night, with confidence in your "American Made" stuff.

I repowered with a 300XS after a SHO with a Nizpro tune fell through. I don't know the real world numbers, but for some of the newer Tuff hull #s, I'm sure you could call them up and they can tell you what they ran since it looks like on their Instagram they've rigged both.

If I could go back in time, I think I would have spent a little more time hunting around for a SHO for no reason other than they're pretty rare where I'm at--so it would have made for a unique boat

I will have to stay with my 300x, screw the overpriced 4 strokes that weigh a ton, i just wish merc. Gave the smaller boats more options, now if they would turn over that 360 apx i would go in a heartbeat

It's great that 108 won't run mercury cause some parts are sourced overseas. He must be Amish. His wisdom is to buy a fully built overseas outboard from the last country we declared war against, and that bombed US soil. Then order more overseas parts that have no reliability in consumer use. 108 you are brilliant.

So Gemp the Grump, please tell the class where Mercurys from 2.5hp to 30 hp are made. We're waiting.

Yes, mercury outsources the low HP models. Clearly not worth building or assembling here. If you are a 2.5-30hp guy, hey whatever suits your needs. You don't seem like a buyer for anything mentioned here so it's understandable. Lmk when you get that Nizpro SC setup then go ahead and give us the 100 hr review......We are waiting.....

You should look into the 300R when you want to replace your 300X. I did exactly that. The R was 35 lbs heavier. Use 87 octane and burn half as much gas.

Is it really only 35lbs heavier in the real world? As in including the cowl and fluids? I dont know, asking an honest question.

why do you keep bringing the nizpro supercharge? its a 300R vs tuned SHO thread...you love your warrantied 450R. we get it. most of us cant afford the 450R or the supercharge upgrade on the SHO. the 300-330hp range is what the 18-25ft boat owner can afford mostly. beyond that, the biggest wallet will dictate whats better imo.

Cause it was brought up in a post by 108, same one that crapped on a mostly US built product, cause some parts are made in China. Yet everyone knows Yamaha has manufacturing facilities in China also. Lots of Genuine Yamaha parts or made in China. It's just bad argument for the narrow minded. Click image for larger version.

I think the SHO is a great product. Ran with a few of them at Jasper last year. The Nizpro or Hydrotec tune seems legit. Guys who have them like them.

When people start talking these mythical horsepower supercharged ones, reality tends to upset that apple cart. The one and only Nizpro SC that ran with us looked really cool, but only lasted one day, and an expensive day it was. Crank snapped and took out the entire long block. Well to be fair, the crank was rated for 250hp, normally QC for an addition 50% of power let's say for durability. Its perfectly understandable it will break at 100% more power at 500hp. Mike is on here, good guy. I try to learn from friends.

Yes, I am partial. I have friends who work tirelessly at Mother Merc and Mercury Racing, not far from me, who have an open door policy for us racers, trying to make SOMETHING for us go fast crowd, and sponsor local events. It's bothersome to see people talk crap for some china parts on a Merc 300R, thats block is casted, assembled, etc in the US. When the other option is a 100% overseas outboard also has China made parts in it. That's all.

I had a 300R the last 2 years, it ran flawless, gearcase lube and oil changes was all it required.

I hope to see more SHO on the water in high speed applications. More options are healthy.
