I always hated sitting in the water waiting for the tow boat to come back around... if you can't see the pilot behind the bow of his boat, he can't see you either.

As a youngster, I did a lot of snorkeling in Lake Erie Canadian side,

I about got run over by waterskiers, my friends, I bought a tube and flag,

Nothing like a boat coming straight at you, I didn't have a life preserver on so I dove instantly, she would have had to remove her vest,

Whenever we skied we went to specific areas without traffic and smooth,

Interestingly, Tricky Dick also had a house on Marco Island. The Secret Service built an addition above the garage area. To hang out at

Hopefully. That could be forgiven. Knowing you did that, and driving away. I can't fathom that level of cowardice/ lack of conscience.

    Sad news, for everyone involved!

Hope this doesn't come off as victim blaming, or pretentious, but maybe it will help it from happening in the future.

I always cringe when I see a tow operator punch the throttle, and make a half mile loop to retrieve a downed skier. They are the same ones that half drown the person in the water with wake, drive by em on the passenger side, all while wrapping em up in rope. The best operators stay away from busy travel lanes, will kill the throttle instantly when someone goes down, flip around 180 degrees, run high idle back to the downed skier, and make a short dog leg turn around the skier. The boat ends up in the opposite direction it was traveling. This method keeps the wake, gas, and maintenance bills lower. It also keeps the tow boat way closer, in the same lane of travel, and makes for a faster/safer retrieve. While I sound like a old nag, can't forget the spotter, and orange flag.

Last year I witnessed a tow boat (past sunset, near dark) drop their skier and kept going at least a mile. I had time to stow my fishing rods, and make it to their tow victim before they ran him over themselves while looking for him.
