First Test Day Of The Year.

Went out yesterday to make some test runs in the SS2000 and Tuff 24. We pulled 130lbs out of the SS so we needed a shake down run to see where the weight needed to be. I think this coned lower is on the edge of prop blow out at 100, other then that we are looking good! It does a great job of out accelerating the Tuff from 0-80! 60-105 the Tuff does a good job running it down, diff of a 28p 1.87 combo to a 34p 1.62 combo. It was a great day and Jace has been talking about running next to each other on the pad all winter.

I have had a yellow SS2000 for 20+ years and still don’t have nice pictures like above of my boat running fast.

Next time please have the camera in the SS2000 and get some Tuff pictures.

Please be careful on height when you get a new case. We now have 3 videos "from on board our boats" where the allisons hooked directly in front of us. Two of the incidents put the driver and the passengers in the water (luckily we were not running side by side as we often do). All three involved cross wakes-you guys see lots of it on the river and in Spring lake. I ended up selling my allison for fear of my son and his lack of fear. I am not bashing them, you just need to be realistic on how fast they are and how hard they can bite.

This is good info to have! The boat does have a odd feeling about it up there. The Tuff does not give any indication of feeling too loose above 100 like the Allison does.

    The infamous bat turn...

I run up and down a section of water looking for waves before I run my Allison over 80 mph. I don't want any high speed surprises. My SS2000 keeps getting faster the higher I raise the engine, which of course increases the chances of hooking it.

What lower unit are you running now? You can safely run the engine higher with less lip on the pad. My boat has the stock lip and a sportmaster.

An Allison can for sure bite you.. But damn they are fun! It would be hard for me to trade mine for anything but a Tuff 24/25... But I don't have that kind of money.. Yet.

Why my brother T-Rex calls A Botes “hookers”.

Get the motor high enough, it ain’t if but when.

I flew down for the Winter Nats in Houston yrs ago and was walking the beach as an A Bote, at the finish line, At WFO and turned hard right, straight for me on the beach.

Luckily, for both of us, it was a top level (un-named) A Bote pilot that got back under control and drone it out the back.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

So lets get to the bottom of this, the dreaded hook. A friend of mine that builds some nice boats says sand the lip off and and put a modded sporty on. I rode with him at 115 in a 20ft boat with a 280 2.5 and it was a rock star. I am thinking the lip is great to accelerate and run up to 100, but it is bad at 100+. People have ran 120 in the SS2000 boats I wonder what they say, or maybe its a secret.
