FLYING UNDERWATER ...
Tidal waters turns Minesto’s “Dragon 12 Kite” turbine propeller. Tethered underwater in the Faroe Islands (between Scotland and Iceland) the Minesto Kite is, generating electricity by a natural resource for the local population.
“The company says what makes its technology different from other tidal energy technologies is the wing, the size of the turbine, and the fact that the power plant is “flying” under water. The speed has a cubic relationship to the power production. Because the Dragon 12 multiplies the relative speed at which the turbine is pushed through the water, the electricity produced by the generator is several times greater than a turbine in a stationary position.”
“The Dragon 12 is twelve meters (39 feet) wide and weighs 28 tons. It is anchored with a tether to the seabed, where it is steered in a figure eight flight trajectory by the tidal flow. The site in the Faroe Islands was chosen because the tides there are some of the strongest in Europe. Minesto’s technology has been undergoing extensive development and ocean testing since 2013.”

In a world needing energy I always wondered why the oceans currents were not used in this fashion.

I saw some news a while back about a system for harnessing tidal power being developed in the bay of Fundy. I traveled there once and have to say the tidal flows are all but unbelievable. The harbors go from floating substantial size crafts quite nicely at the dock to having them sitting on the dry ocean bed floor and back to floating with the tide change. It blew my mind I've never seen anything else like it

There have been trials to get power from the bay of Fundy, but nothing successful yet. Part of it is the desire not to kill too many fish

Everything has its price there is no cost free solution. On that front as far as I can tell improving global forests. Replacing coal with lng, and continuing to develop and improve internal combustion engines and combustion machines in general makes the most sense for the foreseeable
