    On This Day

On February 20 1962, astronaut John Glenn rocketed into space aboard the Mercury capsule Friendship 7 and made history, becoming the third American in space and the first to orbit the Earth

Read that he had many health problems from being in the space program. Back then the human cost was high. True hero.

Oh really what were these problems you speak of ?

He lived to 95, and at 77, he went back to space on Discovery mission STS-95.

He was in very good shape. Not many have heart valve replacement at 92, which is VERY dangerous

The Mercury flight only lasted less than 5 hours.

Where do you get your info ?

I did try to Google John Glenn’s health issues and saw some age related concerns but nothing space related. I don’t dispute that space has ill effects on short term health.

    Ok, show me YOUR reality.

Mister knows nothing; Uncle Leo was an instructor for NASA.

    https://www.apollotrainingteam.com/i...-urbaniak.html

In 1943, just before leaving for Europe, he flew a B24 bomber at rooftop height down the main street in N Tonawanda.

Then, after 30 bombing missions, he spent 20 years in the airforce before joining NASA in 1963 to 1976. A little history,

Yes, he had a stroke as a result of the heart valve replacement; I had never heard of someone in their 90s having open heart surgery. That's insane at that age; he must have been in Phenomenal shape to consider it even.

Yeah, he took a trip on the space Shuttle at the age of 77 because he was so sick

Nonsense, Par for the course, sinking Rocks

Here they describe the health effects. Being he was and is a national hero his experiences were not widely known or talked about. Finding he was a near perfect physical specimen he was chosen for the program. He did experience the effects of space travel and spending extended time doing experimental aircraft flights.

This is from the National space museum it'self.....This is not where I read about it, it was from a book by another astronaut. FWIR he was describing the effects they ALL were subjected to.

Glenn’s service on the Senate’s Special Committee on Aging finally opened the door for a flight on a Space Shuttle mission. He proposed to NASA the benefit of flying an elderly person, because some of the bodily effects of spaceflight are similar to the bodily effects of aging, such as bone density loss, compromised immune system, and sleep disruption. Glenn volunteered to be a test subject for any investigations that could benefit from in-flight data from someone his age. Of course, data from a single source for a limited duration does not constitute a thorough investigation, but Glenn argued that a sample of one was better than no sample at all.

    So, suck it cuda.

    Nice try but,

Not one thing is said about many health problems related from being in space for under 5 hours,

Some have been in space 371 DAYS, compared to 4 hours

Are you stupid or what? Can you read and comprehend? Try reading it again. Do you really think they would make a big fuss about what happens to people that are "Test subjects"? I was commending him for his service and calling him a hero for his service, and you get your panty's in a bunch. This is why no one wants to respond to your posts. I tried to and see where it got me. Stupid assertions from you. You make a mountain out of a mole hill. It's widely known that stresses incurred during rapid acceleration and sudden impacts from splashdowns were rough on the human body. He did it to see how much a human could endure. YOU show me where there were zero effects at all from his service. How bout dat?

It has been a brutal winter here, not for cold weather though.

First, the Packers make it into the playoffs and do not win the superbowl. You have to live in WI to understand this. I lived N of Chicago in IL my whole life and spent 2 months a year in WI but did not see just exactly how deep that football team reaches into many people lives. It truly is a mental disorder. Literally, they changed the day that halloween was observed (trick or treating) because of a football game.

Second, the weather. Early this january we had our first snowfall of the season. We received about 6" of snow and then the temps dropped to negative teens. This was labelled as a disruption in jet stream due to climate change causing a polar vortex to swoop down and make it un-ordinarily cold for our area. What it meant was that the snowmobile trails were not going to open, not enough snow or ice base but at least the lakes would start freezing, right?

Third, the weather. Mid January climate change has settled on global warming for now, and it warmed up and the snow started melting. Snowmobile trails turned to ???? Would be mud if used. What ever ice is formed on lakes is now something to fight about, either for turf to fish or how much ice is there. Why would people fight over ice to fish off of ? Um.....nevermind.

So, anywho, back to that space* goin guy I made a comment about. I am wrong. Turns out the government does not keep track of long term effects on humans when exposed to conditions that would likely have negative long term effects on.................humans. Or, maybe they do and just do not make this kind of stuff readily available to the public?? Who knows?? Not this simpleton.
