Laser2 -> Trophy Plus. Need Seal and Plugs?

    Hello,
i have a 200 Optimax with a standard lower unit.
I was running a Laser 2 23p before. The Laser2 was flush so to say with the gearcase. Now the Trophy Plus is smaller on the hub and i ordered a seal for that. Its called Prop Exhaust Seal Ring for Trophy Propellers (Blow Out Ring)(878421)

Now i was told that i only need that seal if i have too much slip. Now im pretty new to fast boats and i dont know what slip is and how i can determine if i have slip or not. The Laser was running just as you thought it would. If i moved the Jackplate too high it would quickly raise in rpm without getting speed (like tyreslip in a car when on snow etc). Is that the same what can occur without the ring?

What would you guys suggest to test prior? With or without the ring?
Also my Trophy plus doesnt have the plugs for the vents. I bought it used and it didnt came with it. So whats the reason for the plugs and would i need the plugs?
    Thanks!

    My boat is a true V 18ft (Phantom 18)

The idea of the smaller hub is to let some exhaust hit the blades to increase slip and get the revs up at launch. The vent holes do the same thing.

I ran the same Trophy props on my SS2000 with a 225 Promax and with a 200XS ROS. With the Promax and no hub seal, vents open, I got the high rev wait to plane experience of an over hub prop. If I sealed everything, it planed quickly with no excess revs. The 200XS was the opposite. It bogged off idle unless everything was open.

In your shoes, I would start with no ring and no plugs, engine full down if your jackplate is hydraulic.
