Well..this was the headline from Miami 1975..but..
..the way better story was OMC and Jimbo McConnell won the race with the fantastic new OMC 2 liter looper V6..!!..
The triple flip at Miami Marine Stadium in August 1975 was NOT the big story.. The big story was Jimbo McConnell’s #191 Scotti-Craft with an Evinrude V6 Super Strangler “looper”

More from Cathy..

Here is a Little Detail that most people probably missed. Many times John Hervat…… the Greatest Painter, would add something Special to the Boats. This was Parker, 1974. Jimbo was represented by his Indian Hat and Barry was represented by the Concrete Cutter.

Lars - Thank you for filling in all the details that the media left out. The media always showcases the most dramatic scenes, but often leaves out the more important details such as Jimbo winning with a newly developed engine that had never been raced before. In addition, the fact that he was 3/4 of a mile in the lead is priceless. Thanks you for the "FACTS."

Thanks..the crash was a great way for Mercury to hide the fact..!!
This was the new OMC V6 2 liter looper for the UIM ON 2 liter class Merc supporters like Jackie Wilson and others was asking for..!!
The problem for Mercury was..this new OMC engine was too good..and two weeks later the same power-head won the UIM ON 2 liter World Championship race in Cardiff, UK..
Cees van der Velden was behind the wheel in his first ever #1 Velden tunnel..he was using a Johnson Stinger GP V6 engine cover. Also the first ever new OMC mid section and gear case was used in Cardiff 1975.

With some humor..
..if the "big wheels" at OMC had known how to use their own calculator a bit better/smarter..the largest outboard factory in the world could still have been around..
