I met Cees in 1971, just as he took off as a Flying Dutchman racer. And a few years later a F1 boat builder.

Gary Klein will be enshrined. Klein’s four-decade career includes 500 pro-level tournaments. Klein helped develop Major League Fishing.

And we can’t forget Sugar Farris. She co-founded "Bass n’ Gals," the first women’s pro bass circuit.

Today is the anniversary farewell-day of the founder of Mercury Marine & Lake X in Florida.

It is, circa 1965, Dad & Mom are in the back seat of the family station wagon. Dad tells me (a preteen) to drive from Mercury Lake X’s residential area to the airstrip tarmac. So I chauffeur them to the tarmac, and dad says park there.

Dad & Mom get out of the car and walk over to the company jet. Just before dad, Mr. K, and the pilot Izzy take off, I am still seating behind the car’s steering wheel.

Mr. K (Carl Kiekhaefer the legendary Ole Man at Lake X) is walking towards our station wagon. I don’t recall what he said, but he extended his hand through the driver’s open window, and we shook hands.

I (a young lad) who never earned a penny in my life (up until that time), shaking the millionaire’s hand whose signature, dream, and innovation pays my dad’s checks and so many more employees livelihoods.
