Amber (according to Jackie, Charlie I guess), thanks for your response. I always loved the 16’ Molis that were orange with light blue stripes. Several of my hydros from the pro/alky days were racing orange. The only Molinaris we at OMC were those that Renato built for his cousin Cesare whose Paris boat came to the U for Havasu. The boat Sanders & Posey won the 70 Paris race was one, the one that I was leading the 71 Paris race for 5 hours was 2 years old. It loved the rough Seine waters.

Sorry I missed theOFF celebration, have attended several, but most of the attendees are offshore guys where I never ventured. I raced all Stock & pro/alky hydros setting 500 & 700 records the same day in Lakeland & a few nationals. Yup raced against Billy.

LONGEST BOAT JUMP EVER - ‘LIVE AND LET DIE’

The jump scene in the 1973 James Bond film ‘Live and Let Die.’ was the longest boat jump in the world...ever.
THE INSIDE STORY - On Friday 13 October 1972, the Live And Let Die production team started shooting on the film’s iconic boat chase. The sequence sees Bond, played by Roger Moore, having just set fire to a drug factory, evade the bad guys by stealing a speedboat and heading out into the Louisiana Irish Bayou.
TRASHING BOATS & MOTORS - There were 26 boats used in the sequence, leaping across roadways and skidding across lawns. By the time the shoot was complete, 17 boats were destroyed along with numerous Evinrude outboards. 21 Evinrude's were supplied for the movie. 3 came back but were so badly damaged they were scrapped. The director insisted the engine had to be running for the take of the boat smashed through the cop car and 3 motors were completely burned up to get the shot. In the lower left photo the boat front was smashed with a sledgehammer.
For the first part of the chase, Bond drives a Glastron GT-150 powered by an Evinrude 135hp V4, then, after a bullet punctures the fuel tank, he swaps it for a Glastron CV-19. For close-ups of Bond traveling at speed, Moore learned to drive the boats but didn’t emerge unscathed. During rehearsals, he drove the CV-19 into a boathouse on the shore, luckily only fracturing a tooth in the accident.
BOAT & MOTOR SETUP - As mentioned above, this shoot started in 1972. During shooting, the motors, with 1972 mounting brackets, kept ending up in the swamp. So, 1973 motors were used for the final shots. Some OMC vets recall that entire midsection, stern brackets and components were sand-cast rather than die cast. Much stronger for this application. Also notable is that jump boat featured a ‘center steering’ setup and 2x4s on the bottom of the hull.
THE JUMP – October 15th, saw stuntman Jerry Comeaux perform an incredibly hairy boat-jump over Highway 39 at Crawdad Bridge - and over Sheriff J. W. Pepper and his car. To test the stunt was safe, the crew recreated the levee and the police car, even making a J.W. Pepper out of bamboo. The idea was that if the stunt could be performed three times without mishap, it would be safe to put an actor in there. A crowd gathered to watch the stunt. On the second take Comeaux’s boat took off on a 40ft leap, hit the water, skidded in the wake of another boat and flipped up onto the bank - but fortunately no-one was hurt. The impact of the completed stunt surprised even stuntman Comeaux. “When I finally saw film of the leap it scared the hell out of me,” he remembered.

There was a second airborne boat in the footage that captured the GT150 landing (boat ending up thru the police car?) Was that boat piloted by somebody and sent up the ramp with a dummy with the steering tied? This was (and still is!) the only movie that featured an outboard product in a role (Evinrude 135 V4). The Evinrude 135 V4 was a perfect fit for the jump. Not sure a Mercury inline six would have worked with a higher CG affecting roll behavior?

I wonder if its like the car where it uses a fuel cell that converts the hydrogen to electricity and the motor is just an electric motor, batteries included?

For us fans of the sport, it totally changes the story for me, when I know whom I’m ready about/from.

As is, IMO, this thread is kinda the good ole boys club.

Half a dozen guys that all know each other, talking about the old days.

If Lars is presenting this as an informative/educational source for those of us who followed everything we could read in the magazines back in the day, then it should be open and accessible.

When he started this thread, I read it everyday.

When I noticed my (and all other non OMC/OPC racers) replies were completely ignored but we saw pcs of Lars RV, his friends houses and pleasure boats, his wife’s dance outfits, birthday parties, etc, I now log on every few wks to see if I missed anything….., racing related.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Agreed on that. IMO I love the stories and hope it continues, kinda like a fireside chat with the racers of the past. just sit back and enjoy. (Ignore the chest thumping)

I never raced boats back then but did a lot of car racing. I remember watching it on TV though and thinking “geez! Where’s the competition in this? It’s all Johnson/Evinrude!”

Love the pics of his wife. She is certainly defying age you have to admit!

If you don't like what Lars does on his site, go somewhere else. Afterall this is supposed to be Outboard racing History, not how many cylinders Merc can make.

Pretty bold statement John, even from you. Yes, Lars started out doing all of us OMC guys a huge favor telling about OMC racing, albeit tainted so much to his successes and not much about the early seventies. He also wandered a lot to personal activities & relationships that many of us don’t give hoot about. There is also a lot about Lars background that we as OMC former employees shouldn’t be happy about. But more importantly addressing to posts of unknown people who may or may not even know what they are posting is not what I & others prefer to do. To tell someone to go elsewhere is as I said earlier, rather bold. Yet, I enjoy how you seem to ruffle Jackie.

Great find from the past. The date stamp indicates I would have been 11 months old when this was mailed. Artwork like this was the very heart of "nose art" on military aircraft during WWII. This is my last post to this website. I'm tired of all the bickering and fighting on this and many other threads (especially politics) on this website. You OMC guys need to get over it. OMC is dead and gone. Period. Get over it. Lars is NOT to blame for trying to keep the racing topic on track. Am sick and tired of hearing all the whining about the rotary as well. You want to do that, go do it on the Wankel Whining thread.

Jealous are you? Whining, that was the sound of the rotaries at Parker as they lead the first lap. I know, they whined right past me!

I worked on a many of those old 5, 6, 9.5 and 10 horse motors. Ran like clocks. Every couple years tune them up with new points, carb needle and water pumps and they would keep running like new.
