Ignition Coil Costs
Coil part #300-8M0077471 from Mercury is $188 and the same coil from DB Electrical is $45.
My question is should I bite the bullet and buy the Merc coil or go with the less expensive one? Secondly, if one went bad are the others far behind like so many parts tend to fail relatively at the same time. Motor is a 300xs with 300hrs on it. Thank for your opinions.

I have used DB for some stuff, coils included. I have had no problems. Good place. You may also be able to get some used merc oem coils from E-bay for a lot less. I have done that too. One bad coil is not an indicator of the others failing. Merc is nuts with it's pricing. I used to be a die hard fan of only merc parts. No more!

Make sure you know if it's a small coil or big coil engine, the coil characterizations are different...you didn't state the year of your XS, and there were at least 3 different coil p/n's over the years. Just make sure they match and you'll be fine. Connectors are the same, so don't go by that.
A problem is only a problem when viewed as a problem...
