    260 on 2 piece plate

I have a 260 powerhead and 2-225 promax’s. One is on the boat, the other is a spare. I want to put 260 power head on my spare. I have looked everywhere and cant find info on mounting a 260 on a 2 piece plate. I have found info on modifying one piece plate to run poppet but nothing on running a non poppet engine on 2 piece. Does anyone know if I can put the 260 on a 2 piece plate? Tia

don't think there is any difference as for tha poppet/block part.. you should be able ta compare tha two blocks.. think tha only difference is with tha plate/plates when it comes ta poppet or no poppet..... thats one of several things i've never done... tha nick motor on a two piece...

Since it's not machined for a poppet valve you have to custom fit one into it to seal properly so you get good water pressure. Also have to add tstats as well. The 2 plates are different for water flow and the 2 piece allows to much water to flow to lower unit is the main issue. I'm no expert just learning from pros on here for same issue.

I understand. Really should just get one piece plate and be done with it. Mercury as far as I know put all 260’s on one piece plate for a reason. I don’t want to modify my plates I have since I would put my 225 back on it and would create issues with that.

that would be best and easiest... you're right about tha blocks.. ALL tha high performance (other than tha PM) came with tha one piece, even tha HP chrome 2.4's.... its tha heat and cool process thats different with tha chrome/nic and aluminum temps rise and fall completely different from tha steel sleeve motor...

Be very careful, I believe I understood the high perf (260) needs a lot of water and it is tuff to get with a 2 piece and thermostats/pop-off. Again, be Careful you're messing with stuff thats becoming rare and expensive. Good Luck.
