I heard a commentator at the Worlds that a 15" 300R Mercury Racing motor is close to release in 2024 ?

Pretty sure they said the exact same thing at the 2022 Worlds too. :P

What void would a 15" fill? Seems these motors are being designed for the larger current model boats that don't need a short mid. Do the new cats accommodate either 15 or 20"?

Other then lowering the CG on the superstock 32' cats, small singles will be the only ones to benefit from what I have seen. If there were more users they would put more effort towards it. Mercury racing is a small percentage of Mercury's portfolio so small side projects that don't produce a financial return will seldom grow legs. I have said this many times, "Racing left Mercury when Kiekhaefer left Mercury". Everything, aside from the QC4 platforms, -(which Fred fought like hell to get put into production) is based off of modifying something from the main plant. If Fred or his dad were still involved in owning the company, my guess is that we would see some really trick stuff come out of their stables. When you have to answer to stock holders, you are going to do things the most profitable way, not the most effective way when it comes to building power.

Well said. I wouldnt want a 15". The 20" sits low enough in the water already on most small singles. Half the transom side of the jackplate is submerged at rest on my 21 Lib/300r setup. Definitely wouldnt want it any lower. Maybe I'm getting old, but I like my motor high and dry nowadays. A 15" is really only practical for either race use or smaller engines for smaller boats. No money in it for sure.

Extremely doubtful we get a 15" mid.
