    Great message from France today.
    Thanks Stephane..

    Hello Lars,

I am Stephane, French, passionate about Johnson and Evinrude.

My father was a Johnson dealer from 1969 to 2005, so I grew up in the family workshop, my passion comes from there.

I am following the topic on the history of OMC in racing with great interest, you are all fascinating to read.

Recently I acquired two magnificent engines: a 1984 Evinrude 2.6 XP, like new 180 hours of operation with complete instrumentation and throttle as if it came out of the box! I think it would look good on my 1987 Ring 20C, but it's already mounted with a modified Ficht 225Ho.

And a Johnson 75 Stinger from 1976, in the same condition as the Evinrude XP, I'm not sure the Stinger is finished breaking in.

I am trying in my small way to safeguard the OMC heritage, by restoring engines from the 1930s until today.

    Looking forward to reading you.

    Stephane

    Thank you for your welcome.
If you remember the post #2706 about OMC Stern Drive 2 stroke V4, I imported the two engines with the blue flywheels into France, they were on sale in 2013.On the post 2712 showing a video of OMC V4 2 Stroke, this video was made in my previous house with a third V4 in 2013.

I was at OMC school in Atlanta not long after the V8 production engine came out. The class was on break and we were talking about different stuff with the instructors. I made the suggestion that they make an I/O by putting fuel injection on a V8 powerhead and couple it to a Cobra. I will never forget the look on their faces because they agreed that was a cool idea. Like one of them said, it would have a great power to weight ratio.

Early UIM S3000 class back in the late eighties. Production 20 inch mid section and gear case made tunnel boats evil handling.
This is from the Rouen 24 Hour race.

Evil handling? Steering torque? Prop blow out? Would a nose cone have helped? Hydraulic steering better vs cable?

UIM changed the rules for the UIM F3000 and you could use racing mid sections and gear cases but still production powerheads under 3 liter

    Kodak's Days Were Numbered

Attended a conference where engineers from Kodak were there in the late 90's. They didn't have much to say other than the company was deeply pre-occupied with trying to re-invent itself. Digital age issued a death warrant on camera film and photo copiers. All the corner shops which developed photo film disappeared too. Cameras? My smart phone takes vastly better pics than my 35mm Yashica ever did and fits in my pocket?
