Looking back, it’s interesting to see how one small design can influence the entire look of a brand. In 1975, we designed a new Johnson patch. The so-called “J” patch. By 1976, the new color scheme caught on and without any company managed coordination it was everywhere, and on everything including the motors.

Surprisingly, Jimbo McConnell’s Evinrude powered boat sported the Johnson colors in Sacramento.

Jack: The rotary color scheme shown came out in '73, So if your J patch came out in '75, then the rotary must have influenced design. The picture of the rotary is from Provo in 1973.

This was the initial graphics for the Johnson rotary and was change to the horizontal "Johnson" after Parker seen above..

A new, never seen before pretty unique picture of #2 Arthur Mostert in his Velden/Aspen/Johnson F1-V8 in Vichy, France 1982.
Its Gerard Barthelemy holding Mosters boat at the dock just before the start.
We lost Gerard Barthelemy in a racing accident in Paris 1984.

Yes, it happened in the world famous Paris 6 Hour race 1973.
The brand new Johnson V6 2 liter racing outboard from OMC won big over Mercury.
Second place was another new Johnson V6 2 liter.
Yes, I was there and remember this like yesterday..

This was the first time ever..OMC raced the new OMC V6 against the Merc new V6..the headline above says it all..

A very good question..
The first OMC V6 raced and finished first and second in Paris 1973 used the V4 mid section..If I remember correct the V4 mid section used for the Stinger GP/Super Strangler was 16 inch.
This V4 16 inch mid section was used for the V6 Stinger GP/Super Strangler power-head for some time. Was replaced with the RS/CCC 12 inch mid section raced for the first time in Cardiff, UK 1975. (Velden was using it.)

A note..The first 2 years OMC used the same V4 name for the V6..Stinger GP/Super Strangler

The picture show Scotti's Super Strangler V6 in Paris 1973. If I remember correct OMC supplied four new racing V6 engines in the race.
