2.5 mild port on Triton Tr21: what the best prop

Can anyone enlighten me on what may be the best prop for top end on the listed boat. No trolling motor or batteries and mild ported 2.5 with a bit more compression. Any recommendations?! Trophy, Tenpest, Bravo, worked Chopper. Budget for prop around $500. Running stock chopper now. Which can I run .. small barrel, big barrel on the Trophy or Bravo. Anything better worth looking at? I believe my lower unit is a 4.25”

4.25 would be a 1.78 gear ratio, the normal 4.5" is 1.87. That will influence pitch selection

Have you ran the boat/motor at all? A baseline would help. Current pitch, rpm, gps speed. Does it plane right away with the chopper or rev high and wait planing?

I had an xr6 150 powerhead on the boat and just built an ff block motor with the rod slots cut, exhaust porting and 36 cc heads. I have 6 hours on it now and have been keeping it under 4500 for now(break in). I have been running it with a 24 stock chopper with 10” Jack plate, no nose cone yet. It comes out of the hole and on plane easy with the 24. With the xr6 it turned the 24 to around 5,800 and about 62 mph. my plan was turning maybe a 26 out to about 6,800. Just not sure which props have the best top speed for a 1150 lb bass boat.

Using BBlades slip calculator your at 16 percent slip. Most good prop guys can get it in the 7 percent area.
I would look for a unmolested 26 Trophy and test it and send the prop and numbers to Mark Croxton to perform his magic before he retires.
Your modified FF should make good peak power around 6700-6900

That boat/ motor would love a Hydromotive quad 4. The Bucknells know this style boat, they'll set you up right. Give their website a look.

Baker 243 and John S have my two suggestions. With a limited budget, it's hard to beat a used Trophy. With more money, Hydromotive know their stuff.

Thanks guys. I’ve just heard so much about the Tempest and Trophy that I thought I’d look towards them first, unless I can locate a decent priced hydromotive 26. Does the fourth blade slow the top speed or are the characteristics of the fourth blade enough to offset with extra lift.

If the engine is mounted high, the 4th blade helps with the high slip seen on 3 blades, if no lwp I like a 3 blade.
For me the Tempest has layed down the best numbers on a 20ft champion. 3" below pad.

Fastest I've found for a 20ft Bullet /200xri, is a 28p 4 blade signature eagle, 2" above the bottom. Faster than fury, trophy, chopper, tempest, yam drag, 3 blade sig eagle.

Never tried a hydomotive. They look fast!

Unless you are running high, maybe drop down 2" of pitch with a 4 blade

Question, how much does the bullet weigh. I’m thinking mine is around 1150 without motor. Again, I’m not using a trolling motor or associated batteries. The eagle prop, 4 blade, have you found that an over the hub is still providing the best speeds.

Bullet hull weight, is about the same. I run two batteries on the passenger side, and a 24v troller. Because I'm rpm limited (200xri), in order to run any thru hub I own
(nothing above 26p), I have to lower the engine, and I'm still on the limiter. Example, 26p trophy at 1/2" above pad runs about 65mph at 6500rpm. The 28p eagle 4 at 2" above pad, runs 72mph at 6300rpm, although the trophy is easier to drive!

Most Tritons I've seen don't have much of a pad, more of a true v hull? The Bullet has a large flat pad. Your results are likely going to be different. You may not need as much prop, your design may feed more water than mine?

A wild ride in a Triton (as a co-angler) cemented my desire to own go fast boats. That boat was the fastest in the local club (15 years ago), running similar speeds to my Bullet.

Ok, i don' t know as much about it as most of you do. The tr 21 has to weigh at least 1600 ++ pds. Did they do special lay up on these boats? So i guess the ff block is a 200 and i guess you will run carbs?? If efi do you have the electronics for the higher rpm's? With that much length i would prefer the tempest over most because of the high rake. i have run the trophy but it did not give the lift of the tempest.

Hard to know about hull weight, without actually weighing. Triton not renowned for being a lightweight, but a good looker, and great riding boat. That being said, I think I've seen a center console Triton running over a hundred on YouTube. Looked pretty custom to me. I didn't even know they made a center console?
My (1600lb?) Champion ran about 60mph with a ff carb 200. It now has a 225efi 3.0 and runs 69mph most days.
The (1250lb?) Bullet has a ff 200 efi with stock electronics. The rev limit doesn't limit ignition, just dumps extra fuel $., in a somewhat feeble attempt to limit rpm. Best of 74mph, 72mph most days. Slowest Bullet around! Also got a LTV (850lbs?) with a 150 that runs 78mph. Power to weight vs. hydrodynamic drag.

Running the prop high never worked for me especially with a over the hub like the chopper. The boat spun out with the prop@ 2.7/8in. below the pad. The big blade helps this event alone. I said that for the owner of the thread, l know the bullet guys run them high.
