These guys and their content is exactly what the industry needs. People willing to test the limits, who understand when to set the ego aside and try again another day. He's a military contractor and his wife is a police officer and a swat hostage negotiator. They were clearly exhausted to their limits, and pushing into that storm could have been a fatal choice, which would do nothing but hurt the industry, their families, and the people they impact outside of boating. For what? A record most people hadn't even heard of? Joke about their eating habits all you want, but they have my respect, and they should have yours. They could be spending their off time doing things a lot easier.
You won't see many owners of fresh MTIs, 500s, or outboards in general, taking them on runs a fraction this tough, and the fact that the hull, motors, and gearcases all held up certainly surpassed a lot of people's expectations. It gives potential buyers faith that those products will be reliable on a smaller scale.
A similar attempt with 2 stroke 2.5s would have been a real knee slapper, and hasn't happened for a reason. Mercury has continued to raise the bar, and it's awesome to see the potential!

I have been a big fan of How2Live for the past 1 1/2 years or so. Them and HeavyD Sparks are a few of my favs YouTubers. It’s is entertaining and cool to see the millennials, or whatever gen they are try to figure out this new generation of hi pro boating equipment. I looked forward to seeing live feed as promised by them during this event. It didn’t happen and I had questions see post 9. Word had it she got sea-sick while trying to watch the screens. That would get us all and probably prompted some interesting dialogue in the cockpit! That along with the teaser video showing the Verrazano Bridge lights about 5 miles away shows they were on their way southward. With all the disinformation in social and main stream media I found it’s best to challenge anything that looks questionable. I look forward to upcoming videos!
As for the “Record”, that has to be respected along with one of the top pioneers in this sport Tom Gentry, there is no negotiation on that point! If you haven’t heard of him read my prior post. If you are related to Errol, ask him.
Common folks like us proving equipment to the benefit of manufacturer and facing danger in front of insurmountable odds is nothing new, been going on for years. The Howe’s are thick in the mix and only good data will come from their exploits.
I agree with Instigator on his points and accept the snarky remarks from Speros since he is a proven retired super successful offshore racer and top notch hi pro boat rigger who worked for me for 2 years, he has earned the right. As for Jperog’s effort/time percent calculation post #37 may be some truth to that. As for Noli’s post #31, I’ll continue to be a key board worrior if I feel something needs challenging and because I refuse to be Woke. Thanks

I know all about Tom and his history, I'm just saying there shouldn't have been real pressure to break his record given its massive size. What the Howes did in this run took a lot more endurance.

B) Loaded in a C-130 and flown down ... ???
C) Somebody (1000's actually) krunked em up and ... yes drove them here ... some come down the ditch, others on the outside .. daily occurrence ...

A call out to NOLI. Since it seems you are the spokesperson for the Howe’s can you update us on when rest of the videos will be released? So far I like the mention and RESPECT of Gentry and the outboard record holder that Mike included in Chapter One.
Thanks

It would be great if the Howe’s could join S&F and share their experiences first hand with us through this forum. They could learn from us as we can learn from them not to mention it would help drive even more viewership to their channel. How bout it Mike and Sara?
Thanks

Miami New York record
G the millennials are out there in force! They create lovely, great videos! For my money, Tom gentry still holds a record. For my money, Jorge Morales still did a better job for my money Al Copeland in the Popeyes boat chase Jorge Morales, and George meeting by 30 minutes, some technical problems slowed the Popeye boat down. I was an insignificant part of the crew on the Popeye boat, so I still say the record belongs to George Morales or Tom gentry, depending on how you cut it not the the YouTube I want to be in Ocean racers

Can you flesh out your thoughts on this a little?
Ostensibly new motors, already endurance tested by Mercury and found fit for sale. NYC to St. Augustine, They lasted a bit under 1000 miles (and hopefully will be fine for a couple thousand more). Running the numbers, that’s 20 hours at an average of 50mph, or 40 hours at an average of 25 mph. Not sure what is particularly special about that, unless they are severely modified to within a centimeter of their lives, race-only type things.

Nothing wrong with that. Good on them for doing it.
Who GAF? The Howes obviously did. Or they wouldn’t have put so much effort into hyping and selling it as such. I think where the Howes went off the rails here at S&F is that there are legitimate racers here. People who have hung it out over the edge in pursuit of recognition among their peers. And some of them who did so, were not able to bring it back in. Too often We read about them right here on these pages, from time to time as fellow S&F’ers commemorate them posthumously.
So maybe we can see a bit of the other perspective…how some of the legit racers here, who have lost mates to racing, or nearly lost themselves to it, might not welcome what appears to them, to be a couple of showboaters. Maybe the Howes will be bitten by the actual racing bug and we’ll start seeing them in fire suits, and driving under the auspices of legitimate sanctioning bodies and earning their places in the brotherhood of real racers?
I’m not a boat racer. But I’ve read entirely too many eulogies here on S&F and I can see why it might be a tight knit brotherhood, not welcoming to pretenders.
As a side note, The only Mercury mechanic I ever trusted, died racing at the Parker Enduro. He was eulogized here, too.
