Outboard planing plates for lower units.

Who is still building some sort of drag plate for lower units. This is not for racing but just to help hold lower speeds for skiing. I am not looking for anything that comes back past the cavitation plate. Just something that will work well with hydraulic jack plates when raised.

    Thanks a bunch, Carter Powell

Bob’s Machine Shop makes one that totally transformed planning on a boat I had 20 years ago. Since then I drank the Allison Koolaid and have been using their foil. But I don’t see the Ally foil on their web site. I’ve had both on my SS2000 with satisfactory results

Hopefully one of the UMPBA guys will chime in. If not try the UMPBA FB page to find a Johnson foil. Tom and Gordy are master fabricators, not to mention two of the most awesome guys you'll ever meet. There's either a UMPBA guy that's got one of their foils laying around, or can get you in contact with them. If there's one thing I've learned in life... If it's fast, Tom and Gordy can make it faster.

And I'll get that shipping quote for you tomorrow after work.

I use both, and am very satisfied with the result, both hole shot and coming off plane.

The planer works great. To me it's more effective than the foil. Allison still sells those. RR

Doesn't Triad still sell them? Not online... you had to call to order.

Wally was making them out of carbon. I had them several boats and they were great-

I tried to get one from Allison but could not get it. A friend of mine had one, so I took the specifications and made my own from carbon fiber.

Some boats like Alli's that sit low in the rear naturally when tucked under for take off it does help. Others, probably not so much. RR

just by sheer design, the bobs has to be more effective in low speed planing.
