Back in the seventies all International entry forms must be approved by the National Boat racing federation first. Next step was for them to send the entry form to the race organization..in this case YMCF.

One more note from Paris 1973..

Boat #58 was Dieter Schulze & Wilfried Weiland..of course a Schulze cat with a Johnson 65 Stinger (special) in the UIM SE class.

I would bet that no one could even produce a process diagram to illustrate what you have just described let alone how much time is required to complete each step. Especially in the 70's? When organizations (boat racing) are comprised of "volunteer" office staff workers, these procedures seldom work as expected. APBA was / is an excellent example.

Took eight years to finally score the first victory in Paris..!!

Paris 6 Hours 1980..finally in the winners circle.

We finally got the second Sture Sjoberg OE class boat right and was ready in time for the big race.
Our race number for the Alfa Laval/AKAI/Sjoberg was #45 and the latest Evinrude CC engine from OMC.
My brother Lennart and Anders Fallman was racing our boat from last year with #46.
Lined up next to each other for the start.
    (Red mark)

A few more picture of the start 1980.
The start is not very important in a 6 hour race but you need a safe start without damaging your boat. 80 boats taking of at the same time is a recipe for disaster.

This year(1980) was not as windy as 1979 and the conditions perfect for our #45 boat.
Fueling and driver change was done every hour and a half.
Meaning I started and Sture was racing the last hour and a half.

John Hill run in to problems already the first hour and we was more or less flying without any problem’s for 6 hours..
I love the way Powerboat & Waterskiing wrote..

Sunday 5:00 PM October 5 1980.. our #45 boat won the very large popular OE class in the famous race.
Eight years of trying finally gave us the result we wanted so bad.

Paris pit 1980 with the tower in the background.
The #45 boat in the middle is our winning boat in the race.
The one to the left is the boat we came in third with the year before. (1979)
#44 to the right is a Mercury powered OE boat..(newer a threat for us OMC drivers..!!)..

Here we are at the fancy dinner Hilton, Paris Sunday night receiving trophies and price money. A memory for the rest of our lives.

What did the Seine River taste like?

Being Prop Spray is in the air ... and your not wearing a Full Face Shield.

Waiting for the race to start, I saw things floating in the Seine River, that was uninviting. Not like the clean clear waters of the Ozarks.

    Macon, France July 2 2023

The Swedish flag is on top again over all the Multi dollar Middle Eastern flags in today's UIM F1 race.
Jonas Andersson from the small town of Frovi with very limited budget..builds everything himself and his wife is the team manager.
Proof that the hard working little man can still do it.
    Congratulations.

How did Bob manage to tip toe between Mercury and OMC without getting blacklisted?

Bob was a Merc factory driver in the early 1970's, but when he went to OMC in the mid to late 70's, I don't know if he returned to Merc power.

If I remember correct Bob Spalding raced Johnson Stinger V4 1970 and left for Mercury 1971..
He stayed with Mercury Racing to the end of 1978.
1979 the new era for Bob Spalding started racing the Johnson RS V6 3 liter. I also remember Spalding racing the OE class in Sweden 1979 with a Velden/Johnson RS 3 cyl.
Spalding raced OMC only up the the end of 1985 when he won the UIM F1 V8 series in his Hodges/Evinrude V8 fuel injection.
