Would be curious on the setup of the boat and how high they're running the cases. Watched the video with Mike Howe and Shaun Torrente playing around with his new MTI and it seemed as though they made a bunch of tweaks to the setup (can only assume engine height was a big one) and they squeezed 135 out of it. However, he quickly stated, the boat went back to "stock" to make it more user friendly and safer. Not denying the fact that 141 is an amazing result however they got there, but curious on what differences there may be between a record run setup and a daily driver setup.
And in all reality, the same could be said for the small boats too... different props, engine height etc may drastically change between top end runs and daily setup.2006 Spectre 24' SCS

The old days 28 Skater was the set up offshore
Now 32 is a small boat because of 450 HP motors
I myself was never impressed with all the noise and weight and maintaince from the inboards
Kinda took the fun out of it, so Mercury is killing it,
Also killing all those special inboard choices that they make,
Great engineering with no competition.
I'm a life long Yamaha fan, snowmobiles, bikes, waverrunners and I don't see many of those 425 HP outboards on the water?

For people that boat in large lakes and the ocean, smaller boats just don't cut it. A 30 cat is marginal when the water gets snotty but with the outboard hp that was available a couple yrs ago you can run over 100. When you got to the 35 and up, which is night and day over the 30 and under, those 300's weren't cutting it. Nice ride, but only a couple would run over 100 with twins. Now, you can get a 36 and run over 130 is the best of both worlds. Fishing boat reliability with twin 1000 big block performance.

Three years after a motorcycle accident that nearly killed me .. I made it back to my local dragstrip, for fun. One year of running the sportsman class , I said I need something fast and built a rear engine dragster. Twenty years later I am the only one to win the Q-16 championship 5 times. No one else came close. By then i couldn't go to the track by myself. I needed a crew and lots of spares. My wife said to me .. what happened to you, we use to have fun going to the track .. now it's like having another job.
I have lived in Florida my whole life .. I think it's a law here you have to own at least 1 boat ..
I had a 21 Superboat. I really liked it until Brent and Todd (and a trolling motor hanging off the front of the LCB they were in came by me at 120 when I was all in at 80. Being use to 200+ MPH cars .. I said to myself, this Superboat is really practical. Handles the chop really well, draws a crowd at the dock, sandbar or gas station. I can fish the skinny water any place in our estuary. But it's just too slow.
Growing up in Miami, the thing to have was a 17' Action or a 25' Motion. I kind of forgot about it until the day I got steamrolled. A Motion became available about the same time, so I sold the Superboat to buy it. I had and still have plenty of 3.0L parts that I have literally no money in.
My boat was designed and built when the only thing available was the 2.4 / 2.5L platform. People said I was nuts for putting a 3..0L on my Superboat. With jack plates the Motion was a ill handling boat .. I really wanted my Superboat back. Moving the motors forward on 2" plates, battery's in the nose .. it is now acceptable.
The very last thing I would want to do is hang a pair of porkchops off the back of it.
While not quite as easy to launch, retrieve, maneuver in the shallows (get a sponson grounded, you cant back up, the lateral strakes will only dig in .. it's gotta come off in a forward direction) it's about as big a boat as I want to do all the above, by myself.
Any time I state a fact, it's met with .. where's your boat and how fast can it go. It lets me know that they have no real answer to my statement. As far as the new stuff being offered, being better .. I still say, lets wait ten years and see if it holds up.
I'll be getting my social security checks, starting next month. I could cash out on my investments in this FJB era.
I could do a reverse mortgage on my home .. buy a new truck, motorhome, boat that I don't want or need. The ones I have are perfectly fine. I like to go out on the water Monday thru Friday, when there is no traffic. My old body is beat up enough already. I have nothing to prove to anyone.
I certainly don't want a boat that is so wide that I would really need a side jacker trailer to be legal. And I certainly don't want another job, been there done that ..
But if I were to ever want to spend a half a million dollars or more on a boat, I'd dayum sure want to be able to sleep on it, fish from it, take in the sights of this great country.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who feels this way. The two stroke rebuilding business is still booming .. and there are at least 10 to 1 that are fixing up what they have instead of buying new. Just look at the tech section .. how many how do I fix this or that questions are there compared to what oil should I run in my porkchop are there ...
Living in a free country means you can go out and do what you want .. as long as you are not breaking the law or harming others. If you have new money or old, by all means fill that inner hole that we all have with what ever feels right for you. Just don't expect me follow your dream ,.. I still have a few of my own ..

Chaz, if you can eat, sleep and pee in/on your boat, you can write it if as a second home!
I think Elon Musk should re-start the e-tech.
Id think a 400-450 V-8 would be say peezy.
The new miracle motors remind me of what happened when they started racing 1000cc 4 strokes against the ancient 500cc 2 strokes.
Everyone was excited when they were fast!
Was thinking too, Warrens 135 in his twin 450r 28’ Skater is almost as fast as the triple 2.5 powered 28 that ran 137/138 20 yrs ago.
900 HP is 900 HP.
Also wonder, how much is 100/200 hr ck on the new motors?
Appears that on a 30’+ boat, they’re tough to beat.
About the only thing that I’d look at, if I won the lottery, would be a 33’ Powerplay w/a pair of 450’s.
Still cool stuff though.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

I have no dog in this fight but the speed seems a little high..
from Brett, Performance Boat Center on OSO..
To be honest with situation, the Performance Powerboat 360 Carbon went through the finish line with the GPS reading 126 and change. Event organizers told us 141.6. Top Speed of the boat to date is 136.
The Sunsation 32 with new V10 400R's ran the course at 78.9 on the GPS and the event stated 91.6.
When we asked we were told they were going off the events radar and that was the end of the conversation.

That sounds more reasonable. I have a hard time believing stock 450's can spin 40 pitch props 6,450. Have a couple buddies with 36 Statement cats with 450's and they run 120. I know these are different hulls, but 21mph faster is hard to swallow.

I always go thru the Agriculture inspection station when either entering or leaving Florida. I've had the officer in the window motion me thru. I had one say, this is your second home, you don't have to stop. And I've had one ask what's in the trailer ? Race car sir. Win any money ? No sir, I race for trophy's. He smiled and said .. go on. Thank you sir. If I had said .. yep won $5000.00 dollars. I'm sure I would have been sent to secondary inspection .. to check for commercial laws being broken. Ya just never know.
I don't buy lottery tickets .. so I don't dream of what I would do with the money. Pretty contempt with just trying to grow old gracefully ..
Maybe someone will come on here and say how many dealer services are required during the wty period .. and what each cost ... for both the 300r and 450r ..
I wouldn't look for a retraction on claimed MPH ... LMAO
While it was said that GPS has slowed actual speeds when compared to the pitot tube. Who would have thought that there would be a 21 mph difference in GPS to radar. Unless of course the promotors wanted to post high speeds to attract more participants in next years event.
I imagine they were betting on the Budweiser principal of the more people drink, the faster they went. Instead of honest people being there, and telling the truth.
Not sure how good radar is from an angle as apposed to straight on, but as long as they have proven calibrations .. it's the best they have. lots of tickets have been thrown out of court .. by the radar being out of certification.
I've had drag boat racers tell me that the wind would shift, moving the finish line buoy to where they were ahead .. and be handed a loss. hard to accept a loss like that.
Thats why I like drag strips. The newer TSI super systems read to the .00000 column. The Compulink might do the same now, but when I raced it read back to .000 column and put a display on a score board you could see from the space shuttle.
Do i believe this was a perfect (bye) run into the final .. ? Yes
Trip zip on the tree .000 and dead on 7.65 with a zero ...
Did I go 174 mph ..
ticket says 173.92 ..
Why lie then about
boat speeds ...

This thread is the readers digest version of why this site is dying off.. always bitching always complaining always talking bs about two strokes.. guess what.. I owned about 15x 300 drags at a single time, a CRT motor, a pile of 280s, and motors that had a die grinder on them from powers, Hledin, Anderson, Purcell, and my buddy dreifort.. they are all great and fun but guess what.. they get like .25 miles to the gallon, they are ticking time bombs, they have no low end so unless you’ve got some lightweight death trap it’s not doing anything for you.. they are cool, they have their place and they had their time.. they are great in 600lb $15k STV.. I’ve had handfuls of them, loved them.. spent hours upon hours on them… had Allison’s, skaters, and every other small pile you can think of.. they absolutely are zero comparison to a Doug Wright or MTI with 300r or 450r. I just ran from Key West to Lauderdale with several people.. after running 300 miles for the weekend.. it’s zero comparison.. Chaz I used to think my Z06 was just as good as a Ferrari when I was a kid, than I owned a couple Ferrari.. not even the same game, let alone ball park.
last thing I’ll say - no one gives a **** about cars while on this site, 1/4 mile times or any of that.. between the politics and you old women bitching and you bullying everyone it’s a waste of bandwidth
so much knowledge here.. why all the fighting and political rants??
make ScreamandFly great again!

One of the biggest pros of the newer engines is cost of ownership. Routine oil, gear lube, impeller, etc maintenance is not required to be done at dealers to maintain overall warranty.. changing engine oil is as easy if not easier than changing the gear lube. I had a 23 Eliminator with a single 400R, after a full summer with 100 hours of hard run time (previously used engine), I did one service of oil, gear lube, and filters, and it was ready for another 100. After running a 280 on my STV all last summer, I went thru at least 10 gallons of oil, changed gear lube in between every time out, and burned more gas in a boat that weighs a third of the Eliminator.

So aggi .. you don't post here for a coons age .. you single me out when you come back .. and do exactly what you accuse me of doing .. I'm so hurt ..

Go find where I said I hate Doug Wright boats ...
Go find where I said I hate the new porkchops ..
Gator said he believes that the new motors are a perfect fit for 30'+ size boats.
Did you see me argue ...
Go find where I said .. nuuuuuuu auuuhhhh to any of the above ...
Truth is, I said I'm perfectly content with my 25' boat. And the 3.0L motors I have for it. If you want something different .. it's a free country .. for the time being.
The Corvette is pale in comparison to a Scuderiaaaaa ...
Naturally .. you have lap time's from Lime Rock or Watkins Glenn .. ????
0 to 150 to 0 distance in both cars, G-meter on the skid pad ...
Or is it better because one makes you look wealthier, than the other ... You don't need to answer .. I already know ..
BTW, if you don't like the political section .. the logical answer is to not read what's there ...
