Met a Legend today, and bought a old boat from him

Had the pleasure of purchasing a 1964 Boston Whaler 16’ from Alan “Brownie” Brown today. What a great time talking to him for a period of time. Very genuine person true to his heart and passion of boating. Was a memory for me. Click image for larger version.

The amount of knowledge he has is amazing. A true legend who has seen, done, and instigated more than any performance boat guy . Cool post.

Brownie has more stories in his head then the next 50 people in line combined. I used to visit with him when he was working with Jerry at Stainless Marine-(smart guy).

I had the pleasure of talking with him at several IBEX shows. Our common denominator was the Navy Combatant Craft division of NAVSEA which most probably don't know he was involved with.
Like many of his era, he is a wealth of history, information, and stories and a genuinely nice guy.

Great guy! I ask him about the picture on wall in the lower left corner, several ladies with little or no clothing, he laughed and said that four of them where coming tomorrow the 13th to have lunch with him. At 88 year old, he still likes to have a good time with memories.

I’m sure it’s not the same as meeting him but get yourself a copy of his book. I bought a copy (he mailed it to me in Thailand) and it’s such a good read. Lots of facts, mixed with fun stories, a few myths and lots of laughs.

P.S. It’s a very easy read, short stories, can read a few pages then put it down and come back in a week and read some more.

I did try to get him to throw in a book, but he was down to the last few copies until the publisher restocks him. He is going to send me one then.

    Way cool story Ken!
    im jealous.

I have a copy of his book and it confirms, he is quite the story teller!

    Love it.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
