Larry Smith Scarab 38 with Evolution Marine Phase 4 OMC V8 engines.
Not 100 % sure if this is the one I purchased 1988..I think two 38 was built rigged the same way and one 43 Larry Smith Scarab.
The owner was a lawyer in Texas.

32 degrees this morning in Clearwater - reaching a high of 42 and now on it's way back down. Maybe this really isn't Florida...

    Thanks to John Mazar.

I always had a lot of questions about this set up:
    - Quick fix for sponson or running surface damage?
    - Quick change to running surface (camber, tunnel depth & width, steps, etc)?
    - If the steering and engine systems were contained in the central cockpit, were they going to experiment with movable sponsons (fwd / aft) to change boat length while underway?
I played around with this idea on paper quite a while but scrapped the idea when reading APBA rules prohibiting changing the boat's CG while underway. This rule was in place to stop water ballast pick up to change weight (or make weight requirements?) while running. I was going to rig the sponson cross member system to move fwd / aft by as much as 18-20 inches using hydraulic rams. Always thought Veldens concept would also add weight?

Johnson Powered Santa Sleigh – Cypress Gardens

During the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s, Johnson sponsored the “Sea-Horse Spectacular” Ski Show and many other boat entertainment events at Cypress Gardens, Florida. This was also the primary location for the majority of our ad & catalog photography, television specials and films. Literally thousands of our photos were shot on Lake Eloise where the Gardens was located.

    Very nice Martini racing poster.

    The 1984 F1 World Champ Renato Molinari in his #18 Martini/Molinari/Evinrude F1-V8.
You can see #3 Francios Salabert B&H Velden Racing/Johnson F1-V8 in the background.

    Thank you Henry-Jacques CMC.
