Worked right down from Don's shop at .Mako Products, I rounded that corner a bunch. Was always a sight & sound show when he headed out to test a boat or give a demo ride. Our main business was air compressors for hookah rigs, but we made some of the underwater props for the 007 movie Thunderball include the "flying saucer" submersible. Great memories from my early years in Miami!

Chaz, I thanked you for.the pics - couldn't like it for what I saw compared to the Miami I grew up in.......we lived on N.E. 105 st., 5 houses west of Biscayne Blvd. On the east side, there was 1 small 2 story 8 unit apt. building - nothing else all the way to the bay! Wide open from the Biscayne Canal to Miami Military Academy & from the Blvd. to the bay. If anyone remembers, the Miami Shores Lodge was at the end of our street & Ollie Trout's trailer park just north/next to it.

Mopar ,
The Valient pick-up .. LOL
I need me a truck .. torch the back of that car off right there ..
I grew up in the Homestead / Redlands area at the southern end of the county. As kids, we could drag our enduro bikes under the bar across the canal road at SW 312 st. and ride behind the Air Force base, Black Point, Saga Bay and pop out on Old Cutler just before Lejeune Rd. + US-1 .. across from Deel Ford.
From there we would ride out to Marine Stadium , do some donuts in the parking lot , and then go out to Virginia Beach /The Pit / treatment plant.
Sometimes we would go to N.Miami .. 188 st. stop at all the shops and gaze in amazement. Got run off a couple times (too many questions) but was well worth it .. pivotal time in my life ...
Hollywood Sportatorium for concerts and indoor short track racing. Set up the cones, pour out the coke syrup the night before .. bite was there from the first lap !
1975 was the first time I went down Miami Hollywood Dragway on a RD 350 Yamaha .. I was hooked early and didn't quit until I won the 2007 Quick-16 series and the Cirtus Nats. @ Palm Beach. I didn't want to .. but L5-S1 lumbar said different .. :-(
Motocross @ Hollywood, Amelia Earheart Park 103 st. a real sandy track in Boynton or Boca .. forget the name .. and of course Andytown .. (weston)
I ran a T-T races at Hialeah Speedway, but that was defiantly the place to be for short track racing ..
A wonderful time and place to be a kid ...

...seemed like all of south florida was wide open, with so much freedom & open land when we were young. all white sand everywhere & australian pines. racing, yes...darrell gwynn & wife lisa are old friends. knew darrell before lisa. she was miss miami. great woman. she became a nurse, then studied hard and became a doctor. many dinners with them. we would all go to the keys & stay at dick moroso's new home, which was built to take a catagory 11 hurricane i think...lol...

Boy, can I ever relate to that, Fuji! After the last 2 years (in order), pancreatic cancer & Lyme disease at the same time, then chemo & radiation, then broken left hip, surgery for cancer (Whipple Procedure), broke right hip & shoulder (same time, run off the road on my motorcycle), & most recently a cracked pelvis & pulled groin muscle.......GETTIN' OLD AIN'T FOR SISSIES (-; Back at work, thanking God for every day.

Pines Blvd ..
Nothing west of the Sportatorium , cept for saw grass and water all the way to 27 .. now its all condos and strip malls .. Baby Huey's stomping grounds ..
Darrell was at every No Prep show held @ PBIR .. looks pretty darn good considering what he's been thru ..
A man's gotta hate money to pour CH3NO2 in the tank ..
There was a fiddy foot open fish with V-12's at the Stuart sand bar last weekend. Said .. SHUE across the transom .. only a few hundred yards from his house in Sailfish point .. I guess even the mega wealthy don't venture too far from home these days .. LOL
So if the SS Minnow ran 12 knots @ best .. and they were out for a three hr cruise, 1.5 out and 1.5 back .. Gilligan's island could be no farther than 20.71 miles from their home port ..
