240% surge in sales ... in one-year 2020 to 2021.
My co-worker this year bought a $1800 Rad E-bike.
I am still at the do it yourself pedal as-you-go. I haven't graduated to the E-bikes.
It seems the E-bikes will now become a part of our normal culture.

It will be interesting to see if it's a real "trend" or a covid lockdown fad like Pelaton... who lost $1.2B this quarter.

It's not a fad in the high end mountain bike market. All the major manufacturers are offering models and long time riders are adopting them. The trend is towards smaller batteries and motors in trying to get down to the 40lb range. Typical full suspension mtn bikes are around 30lbs. First generation electric mountain bikes were closer to 50lbs. Most riders thought they were too heavy and had to much electric "assist".
I'm still riding analog, but rented an emtb on a trip a few months ago. Me and friends typically rode them on the lowest level of assist and had 70% battery life after a 3 hour ride. We all agreed they were too heavy and had too much assist. The next generation, closer to 40lbs, should be a better fit. But I'll stay analog for at least 5 more years. But 60 is approaching and the assist will be nice at some point.Bullet CC w/ 225 Promax - Sold

You see them by the hundreds in NYC. I think they are here to stay for sure. I did not know that they cost $2k though.

$2k for a commuter bike. Another reason I'm staying analog.... check out the price points of Trek's latest ebike. https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/b...el-exe/c/B346/

Ain't that the same state that is banning gas cars??? Sounds like just what they need, more electric load on the inadequate grid from more electric vehicles. Yeah, I know it's 13 years out - but they haven't figured out their water issues in longer than that.....priorities, priorities. Only in the "Granola State"

...this is good news though, with regards to motorized bikes, it will soon be a new taxation source to fund improving the electric grid. right?...

More CA idiocy....watching the news tonight, a school system is subsidizing housing to help alleviate their teacher shortage. Not a bad thing, but why can't they use that money to PAY TEACHERS A DECENT LIVING WAGE??? One teacher said he was delivering pizzas to make ends meet. Said pizza delivery paid more than teaching - REALLY?!?! This isn't just a CA issue, teachers are some of the most underpaid folks in our country. Disgraceful, IMO. They are one of the most important groups in shaping the future of our country - our youth. Don't pay their rent CA, pay them. Obviously that school system can afford it.

G Sure they are,
I had long ago stopped riding because of how uncomfortable riding was. But I needed to get out and do something in retirement, so that is walking the golf course instead of riding in a cart and biking the river valley in our city on our fat tire e-bikes(far less uncomfortable). I’m also getting back into Squash/Racquetball.
I’m happy that you can ride your bike, I know I couldn’t and wouldn’t. My bike is 70lbs and goes over everything with me on it, including soft sand or big gravel on the riverbank, tree roots on the trails etc. I try to use it on the lowest assist setting, but cheat on steep hills, I still get an OK work out and know that no matter how far I go I can get home. Best of all, it’s fun so I do use it.08 Checkmate 2100br 250xs
