Thread: 40 to 16 amp advantage

My 2.4 came with red 40 amp and watercooled (@#$%^&!!!) regulator. Switched to 16 amp system with 20 amp rectifier/regulator and been great since. Fast idle brings voltage up to 13.5. WFO is around 14.4 or so.
1990 Shadow bass boat w/ 2.4 200 Merc. Totally resto'd boat and love it!

The red 40 amp is flex type that bolts together like 16 amp light flywheels. The black one is cast.

Is there any difference in the 16amp grey or red ones? To my eye they are the same
