Injector service do you go to the trouble of indexing injectors putting the higher flow injectors on specific cylinders?

Update: After lots of research, speaking to injector shops and guys like you, combined with my own tests on these DI’s, I decided to roll the dice and reinstall and Run’em.

Had oil pump primed at a local shop and while having laptop plugged in, ran all engine parameters while it was running. Everything checked out fine. Took it to the upper end of the lake in the river system and ran it. No issues.

Today it got beat on.. took it to the lake, w/ two of my teenage daughters, all their stuff, all my gear, an added heavy anchor, food / drinks /ice, 1/3 tank fuel in 100 deg air temp. Ran fine… a little slow out the gate with the weight and heat, but ran solid 70 all day. Glad I listened to Blake and didn’t piss away over $3k in injectors.

‘13 Triton 21HP DC, ‘13 250 ProXS, 25p Croxton B&B Tempest +,10” Atlas JP, dual poles, 4 heavy ass batteries, and lots of gear….

Update: Added several hours to the engine and probably 100 miles. Running as good as it did when I bought it (used) and before I found the bad compressor. Still can’t hit the 77 mph tourney load I was told it would do.

Sent Merc an email expressing my disgust of their Direct Injector price gouging. Received an email from them, basically saying (f’u) the prices are set by the distributors of the part. I responded that’s a lie because I know what the majority of shops pay for their parts. And, the majority of them only add shipping and a little bit of handling for storing the parts. They are not making $550 each on these air injectors. (If compared to Tohatsu / Nissan, which are same design at $200 ea). I reminded them that I found a manufacturers error that could have cost them millions,, but hey, not even a damn thank you from Merc.

And most dealers don't even add shipping+handling for stocking parts. Most.

When they say the prices are set by the distributors of the parts they probably meant their suppliers, not the local dealers? Maybe? I know mercury does set the retail price on all parts, and all dealers have the same retail price. The dealer cost on parts varies a little bit, so profit/markup varies. But the end retail price is the same for all dealers unless they choose to give you a deal.

Bottom line, Mercury is ripping folks off.. Direct Injectors are just one of many. Look at Opti thermostats, $125 ea.. well,, nope,, found them for $30,, but they don’t come in a package with a $95 “Mercury logo”

Interesting topic, my 225 Optimax with a little over 400 hours on it was stills running great, gets on plane quick, and ran 70 MPH last time I had it out. I pulled the air and fuel injectors out and sent them to have them cleaned as preventative maintenance. The company I sent them to called me and said every one of the air injectors is bad and he is surprised my motor was even running. I find that hard to believe since the motor starts and idles great and has plenty of power.
