The USPS has been the worst for me. What happened to delivering in rain or snow? If my driveway has any snow in it they won't deliver a package.

Shipping has always been a crap shoot, some carriers are worse than others especially in some locations and states.
** My motto has always been as much as I would love to say some other choice phrases.....
~ Always be nice and polite to those clowns delivering no matter how bad they are.....
~ I try to say, wow I can see it is not easy delivering to some homes or establishments....
~ When ever shipping anything take your time and make sure it can survive being dropped from the plane passing over your house....
PS; All kidding aside when ever shipping a powerhead or complete motor make sure they can get a pump jack or forklift EASILY under it 4-5".
Label heavy end on a complete motor. Not saying it is guaranty to work but it will be the only chance you will get. NOTE: Never use those metal crates unless you are personally delivering.
Personally I would never use Fedex or UPS for anything crated. They do not do well on freight, not what they do no matter what they say.
I always use YRC, XPO, R&L Carriers in that order, they handle freight not packages.....JMPO.

I have had problems out of all of them. Most of it is improperly packaged or they are just lazy and send it in the retail box.
Amazon is no better. I have gotten packages that the box had come open (their tape sucks). Luckily I have a great UPS guy that kept everything together.
And you are right. It pays to bite your tongue and say "thank you" or "I appreciated it". He might just put it under the eve of the house if raining.
Far as a prop or anything heavy, better to build a full wooden crate. Now days, no way would I send a $1,000 prop in a cardboard box even with a wooden bottom.

Customs open the box and uses a box knife to remove the cling film, death by 1000 cuts.
